I know in Taiwan's Minnanhua, "to eat" is called "j@p bun". I'm going to guess that he speaks Minnan.

That's a nice visual. However, I failed to see why can't Mongol and other minority languages be considered as "Chinese dialects" since they're a part of Chinese identity. Westerners really need to relearn the difference between Chinese, Han, and Mandarin.

"j@p bun".

err, well I think eat is more like "ja" than "j@p". In Minnan you don't really add -t, -k....etc like in Cantonese. cool30.gif

Minnan Hua. Fujianese. I speak it.

You say Ja bong. But it is hard to write out in English.

Most Chinese say Chi fan. Not sek fan, that is Cantonese, who are only 3% of China's pop.

embarassedlaugh.gif Well Cantonese is also popular but according to statistics it ranks third after Chinese Fookien , Chinese Mandarin.

I don't believe "popular" is the right word to use. It's not like these people were given a choice on which dialect they wish to speak when they were born. They usually grow up speaking whatever their family speaks. So instead of saying "popular", you should say "common".
