apparently there's a controversy going on about him. He actually released a cd b4 and might be disqualified or somethin. His full name is Jose 'Sway' Penala.

American Idol may have hit another sour note, with the revelation that one of this season's leading contenders may have violated the show's rules.

Jose "Sway" Penala, 28, a South San Francisco native who even impressed the prickly Simon Cowell with his rendition of "Superstar," apparently had a record deal with his group, 6th Day, at the time he auditioned as an amateur for the FOX talent search, realitytvmagazine.com reports.

If true, Penala might have broken an eligibility rule that prohibits existing recording or talent-management contracts. (In contrast, past agreements are permissible, as evidenced by fourth season winners Bo Bice and Carrie Underwood, who both had recorded CDs before their Idol adventure.)

FOX has not commented on the report.

According to a flattering profile that ran Wednesday in the Philippine News, Penala was born in Manila, emigrated to the U.S. in 1989 and started singing at age 7, his uncle, Jay Caedo, tells the paper.

Citing 6th Day, the article notes that Penala has already had a promising showbiz career so far, but with his exposure on Idol, "The world's getting a dose of what we've all known for years," says Patricio Ginelsa, who directed Penala in a 6th Day music video.

Ginsela added: "So begins our 'Sway Watch.'"

I think that Cambodian troll is upset that Filipinos actually have great representation in the states in terms of modern culture compared to Khmer. I like Cambodians though, Filipino's arent the ones they should be hating, its usually Northeast Asians who are hating on Kampucheans

Its not about winning its about exposure. If he can get good exposure he'll get some hits.

he was in the group Drop-N-Harmony. Any other fans here?

I love R&B, especially when somoene of my nationality can bring it like these guys bring it.

Now he's in a group called 6th Day, made up of Sway (formerly of DnH), and former members of Kai and Innerlude, who also have made some nice tracks/ballads that I jam to.

Here's a video where they (6th Day, including Sway) kind of explain it to the crowd what groups they originated from:

then again, i'm out of the loop, got no idea what's going on in the Fil-Am community other than what i read on here and other azn forums.
