TAKAYAMA, Gifu -- A spectacular frozen waterfall is being lit up at night during a local tourism promotion festival.

The Hirayu waterfall is located 1,450 meters above sea level at Mount Norikura, which is part of the Japan Alps in central Japan. The 64-meter-high waterfall in Takayama, Gifu Prefecture, freezes over in winter.

Located close to the Okuhida hot spring area, the waterfall is lit up from 6 to 9 p.m. until Feb. 25.
