QUOTE
TOKYO (AP) - Two-time Asian Cup defending champion Japan clinched a 6-0 victory over India in its opening Group A qualifier on Wednesday, buoyed by an early goal from former Feyenoord midfielder Shinji Ono.

Ono's goal in the 32nd minute - the team's 100th under Brazilian coach Zico - was followed by a goal rush, with Tatsuhiko Kubo, Seiichiro Maki, Takashi Fukunishi and substitute Hisato Sato all finding the net at Yokohama's Nissan Stadium.

India put up a strong defense in the opening minutes but crumbled after Ono pounced on Mahesh Gawli's backward header, driving home his first goal on the national team since Japan's 4-0 win over the same opponents in 2004.

India tried to score an equalizer in the 41st minute but Captain Bhaichung Bhutia's free kick hit the net at the side of the goal.

India, ranked 100 places below Japan, never posed a real threat to the defending champions who are looking for their third consecutive Asian Cup title.

The top two teams of each of the six qualifying groups advance to the finals to be co-hosted by Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam in 2007.

LoL, against India? They deserve a medal.

I would care if they won against some formidable country such as any Middle East, South America, or European countries.
chilli21
^that's why the world cup is much more worth watching.
EvilAsianDude
Indians are some of the worst athletes in the world. 1 billion people and they cant find any good athletes for things like the olympics or other sporting events.

Congrats to the Japan team.
But... the win was nothign special since I wasn't expecting India to give them a good match embarassedlaugh.gif

Let's see if they can win the cup again this year.
And please, no violence from the Chinese soccer fans this year.
Keep things peaceful.

there can be only one channel, SBS :genius: I was on around 2:30am today and I fell asleep in the first half and they were down 1-0, I thought they weren't gonna win so I hit the hay.

Then they scored 3 goals in the second half madgo.gif

geograpically, australia is part of asia but i don't think this is the reason why australia wants to join asia. i think they just want to upgrade themselves by playing aginst top guns like japan and SK etc.
Happy Asian
^Either way, I think Australia should stay out of AFC!!

By that logic, you'd think that China could put a decent soccer team out by now. icon_wink.gif
