SAPPORO -- Students at the Sapporo Technical Training School successfully manufactured a steam locomotive measuring a tiny 1/16th of a normal train by using a staggering 1,300 parts.
The 1,300 handmade parts include pins less than 1 millimeter long. They spent more than one year producing the locomotive. They plan to burn coal to run the locomotive this summer.
The local manufacturing industry in Hokkaido needs quality technicians, so graduates of the school run by the Hokkaido Prefectural Government are in demand.
One of the students who made the locomotive and will become a turner from April said he wants to lead Hokkaido's manufacturing world.
