The Filipinos once populated Texas and the Filipinos is the Hasinai Indian Tribe. Texas was called the New Philippines and it was suppose to be a province or state for the Filipinos.

I think New Philippines was renamed to "Tejas" Spanish for Hasinai the people of Texas when it was handed over to the United States.
Most Hasinai indians were not probably pure filipinos because there were only male filipinos in the New Philippines who intermarried with the native american indian women.

I think only the Filipino blood lingers in the people of Texas and it is so diluted in their veins to be noticable today.

I lived in Texas for about nineteen years until I relocated to New York a year ago. The city I lived in (Dallas) didn't have a huge Filipino population by any means. If I ran into another Filipino, I'd nearly do cartwheels because they were few and far between.

The Saint Malo, Louisiana settlement was established in 1763 by Filipinos who deserted from Spanish ships during the Manila Galleon Trade. Reasons for their desertion from the ships varied; however their desire to escape the Spanish brutalities is generally regarded as the main reason. They settled in the marshlands of Louisiana where no Spaniards could reach them. The people who settled in the bayous were called Manilamen and later on as Tagalas. They governed themselves and kept their existence a secret from mainstream society for over a hundred years.
