THREE Philippine National Police officials were lauded yesterday by the national federation of Indian nationals in the country for the neutralization of a kidnapping-for-ransom gang preying on Indian traders in Metro Manila and Southern Tagalog.

In a letter to PNP chief Director General Arturo C. Lomibao, the Indian traders lauded Senior Supt. Manuel Gaerlan and Superintendents Alejandro Gutierrez and Napoleon Villegas for spearheading the operations that led to the neutralization of the kidnap gang in San Mateo, Rizal recently.

The Indian businessmen yesterday reopened their Sikh Temple on Sta. Ana Street, Marikina City.

The Indian Sikhs said they were forced to temporarily close the temple following the series of kidnappings of Indian traders in the metropolis.

Police stormed the gang's safehouse in San Mateo where they rescued unharmed Karnail Singh Chalan, 35, a money-lender.

The operation resulted in the killing of one suspect identified as Joel Rojo while arrested were Onkar Singh alias Abdul Singh, Bien Torrefiel and Romeo Castillo. Onkar was tagged as the tipster of the syndicate.

The suspects snatched Chalal on Sandalwood Street, SSS Village, Marikina City last January 23 and later demanded a P5 million ransom for his release.
