At this time, people may be busy with their works or study. But they will come back for it.
Plus, my goals/objectives for this clan is long-term, meaning we are expecting the result of this year "best clan" competition. So, we wont rush for it, coz we are still half way to the contest.
Anyway, We should save this clan from disappearing.
Just keep posting.

@Both: I dont know if i can be a good representatives, but i will try my best if i am. For Cambodian new generations, i can see them really confident with their English, although sometimes i find some errors in their English, as they tend to combine Khmer and English altogether. (sometimes i heard people pronouce "Compurer" instead of "Computer"), but in general, the English language knowledge level of every young people here is high.

Nikkie: We know ASEAN as ASEAN too in Indonesia, but we also have the translated version (which I'm sure is really similar to that of Malaysian), Persatuan Bangsa-bangsa Asia Tenggara (PERBARA).... I could write it in Javanese or Sundanese or other Indonesian characters, but most of them are not supported by Unicode

Oh, yeah! It's the 8th day of August already! Happy Birthday, ASEAN!!
Let's celebrate!
The Postal Officials all over ASEAN countries released a series of stamps commemorating the 40th Birthday of ASEAN, which is ASEAN Joint Stamp Issue. It features famous buildings from the member countries: Secretariat Building (Brunei Darussalam), National Museum (Cambodia), Fatahillah Museum (Indonesia), Typical House (Laos), Malayan Railway Headquarters Building (Malaysia), Yangon Post Office (Myanmar), Malacanang Palace (Philippines), National Museum (Singapore), Vivanmek Mansion (Thailand) and Presidential Palace (Vietnam).
So, philatelists and alike, don't miss this rare opportunity!

But isn't Malay and Indo has a very similar culture like Cambodia n Thailand?
Bhaskara
Aug 22 2007, 05:47 AM
Very similar, yes. We think of Malaysia as our sisters and brothers of the same race (at least our western part). But What is Malaysian is not automatically Indonesian and what is Indonesian doesn't mean it's also Malaysian. Our languages (and other Malays in Brunei and Singapore) are from the same root, Riau Malay (Riau is a place in Indonesia). But Indonesia also has many other regional languages and dialects (Javanese, Sundanese, Buginese, etc).
Currently, we don't know anything if Malay had ever had its own script. Back then, Malay was written in Sanskrit, Pallava, and Javanese, later it was written in Arabic and nowadays it's in Latin Alphabets.
Other languages in Indonesia, however, had their own scripts as they are of different ethnicity from the Malay. Like the Javanese and Balinese people (Hanacaraka/Carakan script), Sundanese people (Sunda Kuna script), various Bataks people (Surat Batak script), Rejang people (Kaganga script), Buginese people(Lontara script), etc. Javanese script look a lil bit like your Khmer script, while the Buginese script look somewhat similar to Philippines' Baybayin script.
I hope you're not confused
Betong
Aug 23 2007, 12:03 AM
@ Nikkie Malay cited in Bhaskara essay was refer to Melayu ethnic, the ethnic that resided present day Malaysia, Sumatera & Kalimantan (Indonesia) and Singapore or maybe even Southern Thailand. Nowdays we are more related to Arab derivation script Jawa as our indegenous script.
Most of the script founded citing about Malay was write in either Sanskrit, Pallava, Kawi or Arabic. So even Jawi related to Persian and Pakistan Arabic script. So I didn't sure if Malay have its own script back then ??? Maybe uncle Malaccan can help regarding this.
Bhaskara
Aug 23 2007, 01:03 AM
@Nikkie: Yeah, I probably should have explained to you before that by "Malay", it could mean:
1. Malay Race. This includes Malaysian, Bruneian, Filipino, Singaporean (the Malay ones), and Western Indonesian.
2. Malay Ethnicity. This includes the ethnic group that call themselves "Melayu" (Malay), who lives in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, and some Indonesia islands.
@batang: What is the difference of Malay's Jawi with Arab's Hijaiyyah?
Betong
Aug 23 2007, 01:32 AM
^ Jawi already been modified to make it suitable for Malay pronouncation. Some alphabet are added to cater Bahasa phonology.
If you refer this website
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jawi_script you can saw the different.
