I heard it wasn't all that glamorous.

Something about school kids killing each other, I think.

Yep, the story is about a new law passed in Japan(fictional) , that restict and reduce teenage crimes. The useless adults used this Act to control Japan's school kids(high school, probably mostly their senior year) by putting them on an exile island, force them to grab the weapons, and put one a metal necklace that would explode. And this " game" of the adults only have survivor..........................

Ah, remember seeing this two years ago. Boy, was the sequel a stinker.

I saw Battle Royale about a year ago or so, to this day I still think it's one of the best movies I've seen. Although the main plot summary seems a bit simple and gory, it delves in a lot more than just kids killing each other on an island.

I definitely recommend it to anyone.

Unfortuantely, I haven't seen the sequel yet. I'm still figuring out what's the best place to order the DVDs.

Battle Royale one was definitely a GREAT movie that everyone should see. The sequel was garbage.. but if you never seen one, then get it asap!

They even made chapter books and mangas for Battle Royale better off seeing the movie.

but the second BR movie : "Battle royal II, now is war"

BR was really good movie, i like it alot. so bloody. sad thing is that some students doesn't want to kill each other. some will kill your friends to stay alive and some won. and remember only one could survive at the end of the game. but lucky for some students not only one survive. you have to watch the movie to find out. is really good. i think BR 1 is better than BR 2.

I love Battle Royale (aint seen the sequel).

I have made most of my friends watch it, and most of them enjoyed it too.

The first Battle Royale rocked as for the second one they could have done without. The novel is pretty graphic as well. Worth the pick up.

I am against this movie for the negative way it makes japanese people look.

I liked that movie because it was not pointless. I thouht that our real life is almost the same as the situation in the island - which we have to step on others for survival.

I thought this movie was very creative... but the sequel was a huge disaster, witht he exception of that hot sniper girl

BR isn't anything earthshattering. The plot is simple and it's just an entertaining movie overall. Lots of blood and killing, and not all that deep.

BR 2 I think took a conceptually well turn, although I don't think they made it as well as they could have. For some reason it seemed that there were pieces that just didn't make much sense int hte scheme of things, almost as if there were missing parts. Maybe it was a problem with the translation that some things weren't clear. But who knows.

The first one I think was far better in its simplicity, but the second one coul dhave been a lot better had it been better made and thought out.

My 2 cents.

Don't mind him. You'll be hard-pressed to find him not offended about something concerning Japanese people.

I went into the cinema not knowing what to expect, and boy, was I blown away!! It's really a bittersweet movie, esp when you think about the pointlessness of it all. Anyone knows when BR II is out for general release in Europe?

I'd like to know when BR 2 is becoming available in Europe.

I dunno if I'd but it, but I would still watch it, just so that I know it's not as good as the first.

It was on terrestrial TV here earlier this week (at 11pm !), so I hope many watch it!

I've read the novel (BR) and it's very interesting. It became my instant favorite. I didn't like the main characters though, the minor characters seem to have more impact on me.

Um, my friend and I are actually trying to make a new novel, maybe comic, or game. Based on that story, cannot provide any info yet, sry, it's confidential.

There's already a novel and comics, but it'll be cool if there's a game.

battle royale was a cool flick to watch but i liked battle royale 2 better because of the military theme.

Battle Royale was a good movie. the movie freaked me out when i watched it for the first time. There was so much killing and blah. The movie was entertaining but a lot of blooshed that just freaked me out.

All right, guys. This movie is oooooooold. While I wouldn't mention this on an isolated case, this movie is mentioned over and over again. There has been some other great Japanese movies since then. As this thread continues, I think I'll be watching "Sky High" while waiting for "Azumi 2".

I recently ordered and watched BRII and I'm glad I was able to sell it again to someone else. Boy, did this movie suck noodles.

I haven't seen Battle Royale yet, but I've heard about it and I know Chiaki Kuriyama is in it.

I did see Ju-on, Suicide Club, and Audition. Ju-on was great, incredibly spooky. I did not get the other 2 movies, very weird and disturbing. As an outsider to the japanese culture, I truly hope these movies are not representative of how things are in japan! haha!! Anyone seen these?

I've seen "Suicide Club". At first I didn't like it but after doing some research about the movie, I was able to appreciate it. Once you figure out what's going on, it's better than the initial viewing. "Audition" is a Takeshi Miike film, so his films are always weird. I haven't seen "Audition", but I have seen his other works "Fudoh" and "Ichi the Killer". They're okay. The latter two movies are not representative of Japanese cinema. Horror (e.g., "Ju-on", "Ringu", "Dark Water"), zombie ("Bio-zombie", "Junk"), and chambara (i.e., "Azumi", "Owl's Castle") movies are more representative.

i was gonna watch it, but i was busy so my cousins rented it without me. T_T. heard it was about school kids killing eachother until last one standing but the survivor gets killed by government anyway.. so in other words it was a way of getting rid of bad people. everyone i know said it was REALLY bloody. maybe ill watch it sometime..

It's kinda old, but indeed a classic!

I LOVE Battle Royale. I just finally got a chance to see it. And I saw it because everyone here on AF was talking about it. It was a great movie. Cracked me up! If you guys like Kill Bill type things, then you will probably like it, too.

All the characters were really well acted to. I sympathized with all of them. The story line was very cool and quirky. Of course, the violence may offend those with weak stomachs, but I thought it was appropriate for a death battle!

The only part I didn't like, was the ending. It kind of got cheesy, in my opinion. Is Battle Royale 2 as good? Are the same characters in it? I think I want to get it!!!

BRII sucked. It had a lot of controversial topics (like Afghanistan). It was a very anti-America movie yet it didn't give any reason why. It was a very stupid Summer Movie, if you understand what I mean. Plus the story wasn't written by the same author, Takami Koushun.

First one actually had more to it than killing eachother. There was a deeper story and a deeper meaning (which meant a lot more to Japanese people). Second movie tried to create a meaning but was just plain stupid. The way it ended, there could be another sequel....

Second one was okay. I've seen a lot more crappier Asian movies to not label BRII as craptacular.

ive seen BR1 lol it's cool, but scary at times...>.< you know, those unexpected kills lol i watched it on my own too.

well i mostly cried in the first one,i bet many will think im lame..lol
but this movie (meaning the first one) carries some heavy critique about the educational japanese system and have this emotional depth combined of very intenst atmosphere and a very very good script
