REALLY late but congrats! that's an awesome score for not studying! when i took the SATs, they still used the 1600 scale. didn't do all that good but it got me where i wanted to go. but a 2200 should get you pretty much anywhere you want to get into.

Actually no. I'm Chinese(ORM) and I'm from Canada. In addition, I'm incredibly lazy and a procrastinator( as evidenced by my not studying). My score isn't that great, and frankly I don't think I'll be getting into any good university in the States.

That's like, what , 760 per category. That's more than the average of most Ivies anyways.

I'd be more worried about being balanced though, throw in some extra currics and rank. Nothing slapped me in the face than getting rejected from UCLA but accepted to UCB. That was a real "Oh what the gay" moment.

I didn't get 2300, I got 2290! fu-kened collegeboard. And my scores: V770, W780, M740.

yeah. Talk about getting slapped in the face by the math section. Why the fu-k is my math score so low? I am screwed. I'm not going to make it into a good uni in the states now.

^Dude, that's a really good score. If you think you can't get into a good college in the US with that score then I should be flipping burgers or bagging your groceries right now. But I'm in a pretty decent college in the US with very a mediocre score. Just make sure your grades are solid, you're in a club or two, and hopefully get to be "kind of a big deal" like a president or something and write a darn good essay, then there's no reason why you can't get to a decent place here.

Maybe if I lived in the States I could, but I'm international and the bar for Asians is so high. I'm just being realistic.

You're applying for Ivy Leagues? I don't think they make THAT much of a distinction from foreign to native students, since they all pretty much pay the same, but if you were applying to a public university, that would have been a different deal.

I think you have a good chance, especially if everything else is comparable to your SAT scores.

Actually, of the applicant pool from Canada in 2005, an average of 30(give or take) applicants were accepted at each of the ivy league institutions. That's a very low number. Considering that I'm applying from relatively pathetic province (meaning that applicants from provinces such as Ontario/British Columbia/Quebec etc. probably have scores as good as I, but have had access to a lot more resources), my chances of acceptance is low. This is speaking from a fairly realistic perspective.

Anywho, enough of this. I'm feeling lousy enough as it is.

I'm having a hard time understanding your pinyin...John Hopkin's med school is prestigious, yeah. But I'm not too keen on going there. I was once infatuated with Harvard, but I decided that its campus was too ugly, and being someone who really cares about aesthetics, I couldn't stand for that. Like I said, I would dearly like to go to UofChicago; if not for undergrad then grad or PhD. Now why don't you tell me which university you go to.

U of Chicago? I don't think that's an Ivy League, and if that's what you're aiming for, with your grades I doubt you wouldn't make it in.

I know that University of Chicago isn't an Ivy. It'd be superficial to aim solely for Ivies. Stanford, MIT, and Caltech aren't ivies, but they're still top tier. Chicago considers Canadian applicants international, which means my chances are decreased by 50%. Besides, SAT's aren't everything. My SAT's are far from stellar and the same applies to the rest of my app. You're lucky, since you got to apply to Berkeley in state.

So Chicago is your safety school? Your SAT scores ranked you in the, what, 98-99th percentile?

Even if I had got accepted to those Ivy Leagues, I wouldn't have went. Too expensive. Public Schools all the way.

Chicago, a safety?! My only safety is the local university. The SAT is in the 99.4 or 5 percentile, but again, SAT's are only so important. A good SAT is NOTHING without a good gpa and committment to activities outside of the school curriculum. Ivies are need-blind, so you could have applied for financial aid.

SATs are just as important as your GPA. More likely than not, your GPA isn't that bad. Honors roll right? You seriously don't think you can't make it into Chicago State?

No, I don't want to go to Chacago State University, I want to go to University of Chicago. What would be the point of applying to schools in teh States that are ranked lower than my local university?

As for Canadian schools, U of Toronto, UBC, McGill etc. are the better ones. However, they turn me off since they only consider gpa and the Canadian education system is very uniform and structured in a way that ivy caliber students and state caliber students would be in the same universities. That's why I want to go to the states. It' much harder as a Canadian applicant, I believe.
