Curse my horrible memory! The best year of my life was 1997 when I lived in Saudi Arabia before coming to the U.S and I'm fond of everything I experienced that year.
So I remember watching this anime on Cartoon Network under The Power Zone, which was their action block before Toonami.
All I can remember was that it was a mecha show with a princess that looked a lot like Sailor Moon, exact same hairstyle and one of the villians, a human would transform and become the size of a mecha.
I'm not sure anyone could tell me the show what with the so few details I pointed out but I'd really appreciate it if you guys knew.

I also remember when I came here in 1998, on the Sci-Fi channel, they used to show early Saturday Morning a block with anime movies, anyone remember what it was called and what anime they used to show on it? Thanks again everybody.

FLCL didn't even exist back in 1997. icon_confused.gif

Man, I really wish I could jog my memory a bit better, thats all I can remember so far, sorry. Maybe I lost some of my memory when I slipped and bashed the back of my head on solid concrete. sure.gif icon_sad.gif

But if you guys can't find that anime for me (I don't blame you, what with the so few details I provided), I do remember Sci-Fi channel playing anime movies Saturday morning at around 8 am Central time back in 1998. Anyone remember that??

QUOTE(Gatts @ Mar 26 2006, 05:11 PM) *

ultraman?

I know for sure it wasn't Ultraman, the show was way, way newer than that, I could tell it was made somewhere in the 90s.

voltron???

Nope, sorry, I can remember now that this anime I am searching for was definately made in the 90's by the artwork and such.

Does anyone know maybe where I can find a schedule of what shows Cartoon Network showed on The Power Zone before they replaced it with Toonami? I was watching Cartoon Network in Saudi Arabia so I'm sure it wasn't the American version of CN, probably the European version perhaps since I watched the Power Zone all throughout 1997 and Toonami came to the American CN in 1997. I also remember that like after 6 or 7 pm, the channel would then replace CN with like TBS or something, lame I know.

What do you mean by a human transforming and becoming the size of a mecha? Are you saying that person becomes really big or are you saying he changes into a giant robot? Also, do you remember the hair color of some of the characters?

Only series I can think of with a princess with the Sailor Moon hairstyle is Sasami from Tenchi but it didn't have a lot of mechas in it...

He became very enraged and grew into the size of a mecha, weird I know. I now remember that this villian had short, red/brown/reddish brown hair and like I said before, this princess had yellow hair reminding me a lot of Sailor Moons.

Man, I can distinctly remember watching The Adventures of Jonny Quest and Swat Kats but not this blasted anime, why?
I know that Toonami came to the American Cartoon Network in 1997 but I was watching the Powerzone all throughout that year, I had a different version of Cartoon Network for sure.
Dpham313
it could have been it. cuz there were 2 copies of the series made. it was also called battle of the planets, a version where all the violent scenes were taken out and they added a robot into the mix.
Shura
I think that's Voltron you're describing. Princess Allura's cousin Princess Romelle (here's a picture of her):

IPB Image

had an older brother who willingly turned himself into a Robeast who got himself beaten by Voltron. There's another example of a girl whose father turned into a Robeast in order to protect her from another one that was going to harm her in the same show.
Jarhier
just to throw something in, robotech also had human becoming mecha size. dont know about princess part because i didnt watch the 2nd series they showed on cn.

on sci-fi, they showed galaxy express 999. only thing i can remember.
rahul1000
Damn, this is really just bothering me all of a sudden. I need to know what it was!!
I could have sworn the anime I'm thinking of was newer than Voltron, looked like it was made in the 90s with its artstyle and I could have sworn this princess I'm talking about had Sailor Moon's hairstyle, but like I said, my memory is pretty crappy from back then. I can't recognize that picture of that Voltron princess you're talking about, I swore the one I'm talking about looked like Sailor Moon.

I looked on YouTube and saw the Voltron intro and can recognize that mecha, I think I watched that anime as well but its not the one that I am looking for. I can remember watching Robotech and Kimba the White Lion when I was living in Saudi Arabia as well and watching the Real Adventures of Johnny Quest and Swat Kats on Cartoon Network.

But what is this mysterious anime show? maybe it was Voltron after all? I can faintly remember the Voltron mecha now but still thinking I'm talking about a different anime show.

I remember watching it on Cartoon Network when I was living in Saudi Arabia where instead of having Toonami, they had the Power Zone, another action oriented block.
I read and found out that Powerzone existed on the American Cartoon Network from 1992 to March 1997 and I know I watched the Power Zone for all of 1997, so I know I wasn't watching the American version of cartoon network, probably the European version maybe?????

I looked around on many search engines but can't find any info on the Power Zone, only on Toonami.

I'd really, really appreciate it if you guys could maybe find the schedule of all shows that Power Zone ever showed, especially in the European Cartoon Network. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I think I remember that the guy I was talking about who got very angry and turned into the size of a mecha I think had spiky red hair, very feiry personality. Do you remember what the older brother looked like? Do you have a picture of him as well?

wait, I think I know this. I think you're talking about Robotech.

No, sorry, I remember watching it in second grade when I was in Saudi Arabia and I'm talking about a different show here. Damn it, what freaking show is it!?!?

Hey, thanks for replying to this dead topic.

Well, my memories of Saudi Arabia and 1997 are still so very fu-king fuzzy, still trying to remember what this damn show was. Let me look the show you just mentioned up and see if this is the one.....

All I know is that I watched this anime on Cartoon Network in Saudi Arabia in 1997 on the "Power Zone" block, they didn't have Toonami there but Power Zone was the same thing. I hear that Toonami was in American Cartoon Network in 1997 but that whole year, all I saw on CN in Saudi Arabia was the Power Zone, so that was a different version of Cartoon Network.

Did Cartoon Network in Saudi Arabia use maybe the European version or what?
red_alert777
thats the show. there is joe the warrior, princess fiona if i am not mistaken, and zynos-5 their ship, and at the end the ship and joe's ninja robot merge and fly away into the space:) i watched cartoon network a lot those days. its that show. but be aware that european and japanese versions are a lot different.
http://ninjarobots.netfirms.com/ here is the link to this cartoon. its russian but contains lots of screenshot for you to remember.the site i down for the moment but it was up today so it will come back. just thought to help pout i was looking for this anime too.

yeh i think, in Georgia they also showed european version. powerzone kicked @$$:)
