I think they have at least one hidden deep inside the land. They most likely got the knowledge from Russia.
korean_turtle87
i wish they didn't have any, but they probably do...
Suijen
Probably. What's stopping them? They have weapons grade in their reactors already.
namjanurse7
But you never know their underground system is a mystery
sfca-scot
It's pretty well documented that they do. They know that they bought the necessary technology from Pakistan and I think there is plenty of documented evidence to show that they have the fissle material needed to make the weapons. They have tested missles with enough range to deliver the war heads sufficient enough distances to reach SK, Japan, China, and some speculate Western parts of North America, but that last one is only speculation.

So YES, there is a very high probability that they have the ability to produce the weapons and have had enough time to have already produced some. If you doubt this, then I suggest you go do some research on the matter. Most of this is not US intelligence, it is data gathered by the IAEA.

There's no evidence they ever had a nuclear test, but they probably have enough enriched uranium/plutonium to make a couple of nukes if they ever acquire the technological capability.

"wow! this is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen!"

I think they have no more than one, even tho they really have nuclear weapon. but what I know is NK only talks about nuclear weapon and their nuclear program. They have never tested fire, hell know they have it or not.
BahDukeplayer
Yes, N Corean gov DOES have nuclear weapons.

As to how many they have, I don't know, as well as US military sources.

N Corea has one of the most tightly secured infrastructures in the world.

The reason why Kim Jong-Il won't use the nuke on the US, is the US has MORE nukes than N Corea, and can obliterate N Corea to bits any time any day.
flower pig
I personally will remain deeply skeptical unless and until they do a test detonation. It seems odd that despite claims that they have as many 6 nukes it has not altered how they act in negotiations over the last decade.

But Nk can use their nuclear weapons to deal with the western world politically. I remember Kim said if US punish NK economically, he will nuke Japan.
sfca-scot
@ W&N: No more than one? How many does it take to make them a threat? If i'm in Seoul or Tokyo, one is all i'm worried about.
Subedey
Once the two Koreas unite, they'll have an already developed nuclear weapons program...
Suijen
I'm sure N. Korea has more than one nuke, or plans on doing it. I don't think it has the capability to launch one across the oceans though.
Jarhier
i think they would've at least prepared one nuke to reach seoul but that's it. other than that, kim's bluffing.

I'm pretty sure they have tested some long range missles that wiould at least reach Japan.
KJlost
They have a missile, they might have a bomb. It's uncertain if they have a missile AND a bomb. Nuclear warhead miniturization technology is pretty advanced stuff. It really is under discussion whether North Korea would have the technology to make a nuclear warhead that could fit on one of their missiles.
Mantis
In 1998, North Korea test-launched a multi-stage Taepodong I that flew OVER Japan and landed in the Pacific Ocean. Caused quite a panic and splashed headlines around the world. Korea, Japan, Guam, is all under its crosshairs right now. The Taepodong II is in final stages of development, which can target Alaska and the West Coast. A three-stage development of the Taepodong II will reportedly reach as far as 9,000km, covering the entire continental United States.

but I heard that they have some ground to ground missle with capable to reach Japan.

but NK has never threaten to nuke Seoul, hasn't it?
Suijen
I highly doubt N. Korea itself will nuke S. Korea. Nothing says b!tchslap more than nukes, and I'm sure the central party in N. Korea would never allow such a thing.

It's possible for it to reach Japan I guess. It could probably also reach Beijing, triggering MAD. Hence why China probably wouldn't want N. Korea to have nukes.

capital + most populated = major damage to s.korea possible..it should be expected if they are cornered like a rat and feel nothing to lose.

why would they reveal their plans though 0_o
KJlost
They wouldn't threaten to nuke Seoul. It has no purpose other than to alienate North Korean supporters in South Korea. If the $hit really hits the fan, they can deploy chemical and biological agent to destroy Seoul, which would in turn trigger destruction of Pyoung Yang.
Mantis
North Korea has threatened Seoul many, many times, never with nukes specifically, but to turn the city into a "Sea of Fire". It's a very well-know, often repeated phrase.

dgs_vex
technically the US and NK are still at war. we only signed a peace treaty. we did not sign a peace treaty. from my knowledge

US troops
42,000

North Korea
1,017,000 troops+7,480,000reserve

South Korea
690,000+3,040,00reserve

sources: from your very own south korean military page clicky

other stuff you can find there

korean military support to its people

i think our land forces dont stand much of a choice agianst north korean army. our major role will probrally be by air and navy. maybe another amphibious assult on some location. dont know if china will attack agian. but if we ever do reenter war, we get cool korean war pins.
flower pig
The number of US troops is now like 33,000 and they are going to cut it to under 30,000 pretty soon supposedly.
etzel
nk has enough plutonium for 2-5 plutonium devices (i.e., hiroshima/nagasaki). the uranium enrichment program that alarmed the US is one of the last steps for thermo nuclear devices much smaller and efficient than pure plutonium. if the estimates are accurate, that means 10-20 deliverable devices.

one or two will make you stop and think. having extra means you need to deal with them. guess what?
Jhangora
N Korea may have nuclear weapons. We can't be sure.Pakistan sold them some nuclear technology and we know for sure that Pakistan has nuclear weapons.

I highly doubt that all of their nukes will be sufficient to evaporate even a district of a Seoul, and realy highly doubt that they have enough carriers do deliver it.

Maybe Kims rockets are just 2 of a stealed stilleto warheads?
ddongghe
NK should definitely have few long range rockets but they really need need an ICBM so NK can free SK from American occupation.

Or American marketing team came up with more BS about NK doing $hit to SK. NK would rather sink Japan along with American forces in SK> Definitely not Korean people.

Since the end of the war North Korea has been responisble for more South Korean deaths than any other country.

I'm talking about the terrorist attacks that have taken place by North Korea against the South since the war ended.
Goggle KAL Flight 858 sometime. Or the bombing in Rangoon. Or the many instances of North Korean commandos inflitrating the South as recently as 1996 (see Sokcho incident).

Bunch of stupids. thumbsdown.gif

Losers are become terrorists and winners are become legitimate country.
How many times we heard of puppet states and terrorist states from winners?

If NK nuke out US and ultimately wins, then US will becomes terrorist country and NK will become heroic country.

Now back to the topic at hand will you admit that North Korea has committed terrorist attacks against the South since the end of the war?
