ihlubwonbin
Yeah, a lot of families are moving down there because they think it'll get them more money than working up here in the cities...I'm sure you make more money but Dang, that's some hard a&& labor!
herc
^^ yea it is some hard @$$ labor. but i guess hmong these days will do anything for money. jk. i personally wouldn't want my family to move down there cause i think it's not worth it.
ber

I know so many people are moving to FLORIDA...NO!!!! they are going to take over FLorida now!
Samurai Drive
They' re moving to Florida cause they have diabetes or high blood pressure. My parents have that too and are planning to visit Florida.
It does work. Some people actually had their blood pressure or diabetes go down. Nature is great!
ihlubwonbin
Yeah, I heard that moving down there really works...
VietSk8rGUI
SOME OF YALL NEED TA COME TO TEXAS!!!!!!!! icon_smile.gif
chan88
Yeah I see Hmongs and Laotian moving to the South, Georgia, N. Carolina, etc. Their explanations are that it's warmer, a lot cheaper (in terms of houses and rents), and greener.

ihlubwonbin
I heard it was hecka boring and lonely down there because everyone you know is a good half hour and/or more away from you. I personally wouldn't be able to live down there...If my parents decided to go...I would stay up here in MN with my siblings...

I think it's all in their mind LOL....otherwise FLorida wouldn't have that many blood pressure and diabetes cases each day hahaha....Some people actually move back north or west because the cost of living in FLorida is too expensive a house you buy in WI for 100K ...well in FL it's around 300K...so OVERPOPULATED!...

Hmong should take over America's farms embarassedlaugh.gif
sure-thing
I'm from the south and yes there are a lot of northern peeps moving this way. It's cool though. Most of them come for the poultry farms, but we do have nice weather down here also. I think people get tired of the snow especially the older folks. Yes, we drive miles to see one another, but you love eachother more when you don't see eachother as often. Ha, another thing we have down here...BAMBOO You know Hmong peeps like this stuff and we got plenty of it. icon_smile.gif Be careful though cause a lot of older Hmong folks like to hate!!! They don't want to share their new found baboo fields. Northern Hmong people, we welcome you guys!!!

Another thing, Hmong people like hard labor, haven't ya'll notice - or is it just me? And cost of living down here is a tad bit cheaper than up north.
lilasiankid
I heard there's alot of gangbangers chilling down there! embarassedlaugh.gif
Mimo123
I guess, because its hotter there, so the older Hmong could crop and stuff.

Shoot, did I forget to mention that we have rice fields down here too?!? Anyway, we do...the old folks love that stuff too! They be making lots of money off that stuff...let me tell you, old folks know how to make money in their own special ways. Don't underestimate them.

i live in florida. it's not so bad. i think it's just like everywhere else. the only difference is that you can still go out and play volleyball/basketball/etc during the winter.

cost of living is like living in the bigger cities up north. my old apartment had 2bedroom (12' x 15'), 2bath, 1 den, full kitchen, full dining room, living room + a screen patio and it was $800. that was the cheapest biggest place around. there was also a fitness center and a swimming pool. excellent place but someone bought and decided to convert the apartments into condos.

Florida can be boring if you decide to visit but it all depends on how fun/cool your relatives/friends are and if they live far away at a farm sure.gif . my sisters was just down here for spring break. i took them to the beach, went to Ybor city, shopping, fishing, played volleyball, and took them to Orlando.
jvang_07
My parent's moved to the country side of town in Minnesota. But Luckily enough we aren't moving down south any time now. NO WAY MAN! I would never allow it.

But they move because we want to have their own land and farm and everything else like that I suppose.
genkidama20
Yeah... I've always been perplexed at why there are thousands of Hmong living in the north. Laos is a tropical country with a warm and humid climate. Totally opposite from Minnesota -20 degree weather and bone chilling winds. I figured there would have been more Hmong living in Louisiana or Texas by now. Odd...

Is it true that welfare is fairly easy to acquire in those northern states (i.e. Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, etc...).
xeemlauj
OMG,

all my relatives moved south too.

arkansas, virginia and iowa.. ??? confused.gif bawling.gif
maersk
there are many hmong near grand rapids and further n orth near cadillac.
AZNSupremacist
what are you southerners experience on racism on there? more less same?
JakeCutter
Basically, Hmongs are virtually unknown outside of central California and the midwest. But now they are moving to different parts of the country ie the south, north east, rocky mountain states, etc. I wonder what people's first reactions are going to be when they first see these asians. Maybe "Oh look another Vietnamese." Maybe in 20 or so years they won't be something exclusive and everyone will know who and what they are. It's the same with with other immigrants. The usually start off in one area of the country, but later on they expand into different parts of the US. But they are fairly new immigrants and it will take some time for them to occupy every region of the US, if it ever happens.

I can't wait for the day I can talk to any American about Hmongs and they won't be clueless and say things like, "Huh? What are those? Are they people from Mongolia???".

JakeCutter
From what I hear, the south can be very racist. The level of racism varies from city to city.
suzuki1
The grass might be greener on the other side. If its not, they will be crawling back sooner or later. You know how we Hmong people are, we can't live without our clan nearby.

yep yep.......we move tha Sunshine State "FLorida"......the weather is GREAT hea..compare to Michigans.....
Graham_Cracker07
LOL, ppl are acting like the South is a foreign country or something. It's really not that different. And yes, there are alot of racist ppl, but most racism is b/t blacks & whites. Most ppl dont have a problem w/ Asians. The South isn't all empty and underdeveloped. We have cities. You're acting like Minnesota & Wisconsin dont have boring countryside too.

And not just Hmongs are moving down South. Everyone is. The South has some of the fastest growing places in the US. It's because of the cheaper cost of living. You can buy a nice big house for cheap.

I'm moving to the south in a year or two... I didn't have a problem there when I visited my friend, but he's a white guy though ahha.

biggrin.gif EVERYONE SHOULD MOVE TO FLORIDA
MyDreams84
Most families I know in Michigan that moved down south did it for business reasons. They wanted to open up their own business, whatever that may be. Some opened up tool shops, gas stations, and of course, restaurants. As for my uncles, they moved down to NC to start their chicken farm business - yeah, those Tyson chickens!!
laugh.gif
yajthaugluv
It's just the OGs whom are heading down their dragging their family with them. They just love that independent manual labor raising lives stocks and what not.

A lot of Hmong from California, Michigan, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania moved down to Oklahoma. My family has been living in Oklahoma for over 22 years and it used to be very densely populated with under 100 Hmong families. Nowadays, I see Hmong people at Wal-Mart, the gas station, etc.

LOL. Not every Hmong who moves to the south is in the Agriculture/Poultry business. My father and his brothers are in the Aeronautics business. =D
