Today (June 28), Yama$hita Tomohisa (21) of NEWS with Golf (19) and Mike (16), the Thai siblings and other 7 Jrs announced the formation of a new unit "kitty GYM", Johnny's first international unit. The unit will be the special supporters and will sing the cheering song for the "Woman's Volleyball World Grand Prix 2006" which will be telecasted by Fuji TV (starting August 18th). The unit will be active only this limited period.

It is a birth of Johnny's first international unit. The unit's name "kitty GYM" comes from the initials of the 3 name capital letters. President Johnny Kitagawa said that the group's name was designated from Volleyball which everyone from children (kitty) to adults can enjoy the sport (GYM).

Yama$hita said "I'm delighted that Asian people will get to know about us. I would like myself to be active globally and it's great that this could be that opportunity.

The brothers, Golf & Mike, which are the core of the group with Yama$hita, are an idol group which is the 1st gen of "Thai Junior", which is set up in 2002 with the co-orperation between Johnny's and the Thai record company. November last year, they debuted with their first album and last March, they just held their first independent concert with 5,000 audiences. They're tremendously popular in Thailand.

Johnny's also offered them the song, "Epilogue" of Tackey & Tsubasa to sing in this album. President Kitagawa applaused them that "their abilities to sing, dance, and their talents are without a doubt." They were invited to be guests in a concert of NEWS which Yama$hita was a member at the end of 2004 and they showed their talents there.

Golf said about Yama$hita that "he's a funny person but when working he concentrates. I'm glad to have a chance to work with him again." And Mike is also delightful and said "I always would like to work in Japan again so now I'm very honored."

As for activity of the unit will be for only limited period of World Grand Prix. The two will take charge of the Japanese cheering song. The other 4 members will be chosen from Johnny's Junior and will be announced later. The announcement will probably be the first match of Japan on August 18. (Ariake Colloseum, Tokyo)

I love Lift + Oil. I've gotten back to loving Sek Loso. His new album is so good, especially the track "14 eek krung" .

Golf and Mike do look like some k/j-pop wannabes....lol But some of their songs are ok. I'm a die hard fan of the artists that came out in the early to mid-late 90's. Especially the ones from RS Promotion.

Yea I like their song Thai/Dum-Lum-Phanh. I naturally like any morlam songs. I also like classics such as:

1) Orrawee~Lum glaum toong
2) Darky--any/all of his songs (He's a kantroom singer--surin region)
3) Mon-Ruk-Look-Toong --the old version, not the new one.

Basically anything that isnt too 'modern poppish'.

I for one think that its great how Thailand finally stepped up to the plate with youngsters who can compete with the rest of Asia. All the other singers are nice... some are great... But the best of the best is a lil too old for teens. Such singers like Bird are not as appealing as Golf and Mike... right now, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE "TEENS".... "We" are what makes stars who they are. Never said GOLF and MIKE were gay and never made up anything about them just stated my opinion of them trying too hard to be K/J-pop. And as Aero said they don't have their own identity - they're just part of the mass - they'll be forgotten within a few years why? because they're the same as those that came before them and they'll be the same as those that come after. ok let's sort a few things out :

their image - they do not control that so you can't blame them. that the job of the "artist development" area. image plays a big part of pop musicians (which is why you should play jazz or heavy metal like i do, itz easier on the shopping list ). artist development basically plan your career. in the UK 3 months is considered a long time for a boy band - they manage your image (and its changes), work with publicity gain attention etc. golf mike are just puppets of these guys.

their music - i very much doubt they write their own songs. most pop bands have no control over their creative output as its entirely controlled by the record label. it woudn't suprise me if their music was written by their producer and a hired songwriter like most boy-bands do. the only boy bands i know that wrote their own songs are N Sync and Westlife

talent - well like said, their musical output and their image are something they have no control over. as for their singing voices - 3 months of intensive voice training and intensive choreography and its done. its nothing overtly special - and considering im a music student and we happen to be next to the dance/drama classes not to mention im a guitar teacher/session musician/working on a handfull of projects i think that puts me in a position to judge such things. people don't realise that the so called "talent" can be learnt from reading the right books and speaking to the right person. if they want to really showcase talent they should develop their OWN voices. freddie mercury had his own voice. ozzy osbourne had his own voice (emphasis on had, last 2 time i've seen him he's lost it). little richard had his own voice. so did fats domino, nina simone, tina turner, and all the legends.
there are people in my class who could barely sing a note when they went in and are now blazing through karaoke nights. likewise my ex who is on the drama course says the same thing about the choreography classes they do.


if you want to hear talented silly fools is a good place to start. im sorry to say this but personally myself i think the thai music scene (or asian music scene in general) is lamer than the one in farangland (and its bad enough here). it seems that thai musicians are good at playing instruments but cannot write songs or do anything creative (something different from what everyone else is doing).
