it's time to self assess and reflect. how do we view ourselves? we have a tendency to follow and copy the latest trends out there. this will only get us to the middle of the pack, but never the top. viets need to step out of that comfort zone and let our innovative minds grow.

I'm Southern Vietnamese, and I despise Bobvu's view about Northern Viet people.

It's interesting that this bobvu troll doesn't even know that 1/3 of the commie are nam ky, while the rest of the 2/3 are bac ky and trung ky.

Viet pride for life!

In my life, I've met some very smart fellow Viets, and also some rather dumb Viets! and I have more than one occasion been surprised by some Viet people's intelligence, whether in school (math, computer skills,etc...) or playing Chinese chess (Co Tuong), either they were too smart, or I was too dumb! In general, I think Viets as individuals are smart, but also have very suspicious minds, we don't trust each other very much (for whatever reasons, political orientations, regional prejudices,etc..)and it's not easy for Viet people to stick together to project our power (just look at Viet overseas organizations). Perhaps the only thing causing Viet people unite together is the foreign invasion (one positive aspect of foreign invasion!). But if history is any indication, Viet people have proved again and again that with good leadership, good policies, and a uniting effort, we could beat anybody in their own games.

I whole heartedly agree with you. We are way too competitive with each other.

I can't help but feel sorry for Bobvu...he is one misguided angry frustrated lad. His hatred will eventually blind his sense of rationality. Life is too short.

My little brother and I are extremely capable, sharp technical people. However, we are not compatible: he dresses neat and clean and works from the top down. I am the epitome of the "homeless casual" look and I work from the bottom up.

I just don't see myself working in the same firm with my little brother: our attitudes and our work methodologies are so opposed that we would be at each other's throats from Day One, and absolutely NO work would get done. I don't want any of my staff saying this about me and my little brother: "Did you see what I saw?" "Can you believe what these two did to each other?" "I am working for two nuts. HELP!!!"

I have to admit that my beautiful, sweet, late mother would keep us in line (or try to) by yelling at us and whacking at us - even as we were adults and had studied the martial arts for years. To say that she was at times fed up with both of us would be an understatement. Our one saving grace is that we were both crazy about her, and she knew it.

Well, what I've noticed is that Viets really care about their fellow Viets if they're less fortunate, suffering or in any kind of danger. They would do all they can to help and they make generous donations. They'll come to aid their fellow Viets in times of need.

But Viets become nasty to each other when one is better off than the other. It could be that one is better looking, or make more money, or has a bigger house, a more expensive car, a more senior job title, or more successful in anyway... that's when the backstabbing and competition begins.
We're a funny bunch of people... we love each other and don't want to see each other suffering but yet we hate it when the other is better off than us

these characteristics sound like New Yorkers
