I remember when I was in 5th grade the man living across from me was a cop, his wife, and his police dog (german shepard). Anyways, I was walking my dog and the cop happened to do the same. As we passed each other, both our dogs started to growl and before I knew it, the two were at it. Being the little pussy I was, I let go of the leash and watched in terror. In the end, my dog beat the crap out of that cop dog. I remember the cop dog whimpering with blood around it's neck while my dog was perfectly fine. It was intense... I thought he was going to have our dog sent away but he didn't do anything. My parents apologized and so did he.

Why is this still here when its not even in Japan?

In Japan today, dogfighting is still practiced ; and the Japanese revere the Tosa as the embodiment of a warrior. Historically, the Samurai were instructed to study the Tosa during combat to learn fearlessness, tenacity, and courage. Suprisingly, the rules governing Japanese dogfights are stringent and complex, and the Japanese have ennobled Tosa dogfights with all the pageantry and ceremony of Sumo Wrestling. In Japan; the Tosa is referred to as the "Sumo" dog because of its’ great size and strength. Recondite and metaphorical, Tosa dogfights are not fought to the death . In Japan; unbridled aggression or expediant victories are discouraged in dogfighting. Anthropromorphized to be warriors, in the fight arena; the Tosa is judged: by the duration of the fight, the quality of the opponent, courage, and endurance. A combatant is more highly respected If he fights courageously and for longer durations. Those competitors with many "quick wins" will be ranked lower than the competitor who routinely lasts the duration of the 30 minute bout.

Sekiwake: Fighter rising in the ranks
Ozeki: Pro fighter- 10 rounds Championship contender

Senshuken: National Japanese Grand Champion:
This prestigious title may only be given during the lifetime of the dog. The combatant must be ranked higher than Yokuzuna, and chosen by judges.

Meiken Yokozuna: Warrior Grand Champion: The competitor must have three fights as a Senshuken, with a record of no less than two wins and one draw. This prestigious honor has only been achieved by thirty two dogs from among more than four hundred fifty National Japan Grand Champions.


Gaifu Taisho: Best Fighting Technique.

Meiken Yokozuna: Warrior Grand Champion.
Adjudicated to be the most effective fighting technique employed by an individual combatant in a tournament.

In Japan [Tosa] dogs are carefully bred and trained and the game is conducted under strict rules and accompanied by holy rituals and processions. The dog fights among Tosa's should never be cruel or bloody and they never end with the death of one of the participants. On the contrary, the fights are designed to last long and, contrary to pit dog fights, a dog that goes for a fast and easy victory, is not considered a good specimen.

Similar to Sumo wrestling, the dogs try to bring and hold each other down on the floor. If he dominates for more than 3 min. (or 5 min. if the fight lasted for more than 15 min.) he is declared the winner. A whining or growling dog is declared the loser. The same goes for a dog that turns its hind to the opponent or moves back three steps when attacked. The figth ends in any case after 30 min. in a nil draw if neither of the dogs has proved superior to the other. Unlike most other fighting dog breeds, the original Tosa is conscious of the symbolic value of the fight and it respects the rules of the game and its opponents.

Like sumo wrestlers, the dogs are graded into a hierarchy according to the points they have recently earned. The greatest Tosa "wrestlers" receive the title of Yokozuna, like the famous sumo's.

yes animal fights do happen around the world..int eh USA too...but the dog fights in USA seems more secretive than the ones on this thread...

my cuz's use to breed pitbulls to fight. it was really big and underground kind of thing. their pitbulls were scary. they stop after a while because it's too expensive and sad when their pit gets her or dies.
