A new milestone in Vietnam-Cambodia ties

Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni paid the first official visit to Vietnam since his enthronement in October 2004 at the invitation of President Tran Duc Luong.

In their talks, President Tran Duc Luong highly praised King Norodom Sihamoni’s visit as a new milestone in the two countries’ relationship. He affirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy to strengthen the traditional friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia, considering them a common asset of the two peoples. He also asserted Vietnam’s determination to promote the bilateral ties under the motto: “Fine neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and durable stability”.

Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni expressed his sincere thanks to Vietnam for its warm and solemn welcome and affirmed his visit helps firther the traditions built by his father King Norodom Sihanouk who had visited Vietnam several times to foster the friendship between the two countries. He also thanked the Vietnamese government and people for their support and assistance to the Cambodian people in the past as well as at present.

While in Vietnam, King Norodom Sihamoni also held talks with Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh and Prime Minister Phan Van Khai.
