i lived in MA, and i had the top marks, and i was in the top junior highschool in the state, and i was going to one of the best highschools in the state....but then 911....lots of $hit happened...i had to move to Canadia and stick with rediculously easy school curriculum....and now i'm making up for it by working my @$$ off.

What did 9/11 have to do with your school? Did your stellar school records get burned up or something?

In any case, tell me why you think I will be rejected.

Really? You were "really close" to getting in? What makes you think that you're good enough for Harvard and MIT? Your grades? You do realize that top tier schools such as Harvard and MIT have tons, and I mean tons, of applicants every year who have not only excelled in their school curriculum, but also have very impressive feats outside of school-Siemens, Intel, nationally competitive as a musician, Carnegie Hall, Top Olympiads etc. etc. It's asinine to assume you would have gotten in because of grades or whatever or that you didn't get in because of 911. Now here's an innovative excuse: I didn't get into Harvard or MIT because the Twin Towers toppled even though that happened in NY and I live in Massachussates.

icon_rolleyes.gif "really close to getting in" What a joke.
chynagongju
^Lol yeah I agree.

WarEngineer -- you went to a good junior high and got great marks THERE and you think that made you REALLY CLOSE to geting into Harvard and MIT? embarassedlaugh.gif

Thats what I was thinking

At least here with Oxford and Cambridge people have an idea because they request applicants for the interview stage.

wow, u guys ....what can i say. believe me or not. over 60% of my school's graduates end up in Havard/MIT/Princeton/Yale....

u dont have to believe me, i dont give a rat's @$$ what u believe or not, but that's what happened. schools like Harvard can only accept so many international students and student from out of province.
I lived there....I was at the right spot at the wrong time.

dont give me all that insult crap....u can all go fu-k urselves.
my uncle was so pissed off because i had to move that he wanted me to still apply for MIT and Harvard. I didnt bother.
C.Chen
Even if your school sends 60% of its graduates to some Ivy, your claim was still highly unprecedented. Do you think that attending a school like Exeter or Andover means automatic admission to an Ivy?

Besides, judging by the manner in which you handled this situation, I somehow doubt that you possess the maturity to survive at a school such as Harvard. You've merely reinfoced our doubts.

The thing is, you were talking about your scores from JUNIOR HIGH. That has no factor into which college you attend. And JUST because you go to a certain high school does not mean that you're so much closer into getting into Harvard/MIT/Yale/etc.

And out of province as in out of state? That is probably true, but you know, a state is pretty huge. They have a huge population to pick from.

Anyways, IMO, if you didn't get an interview, you can't say that you were SO CLOSE to getting in.

And I don't get what your uncle story has to do with anything.

Weather? How do you compare Lake Old Campus to... persistent snowdrifts that absorb cars? Hrm... toss-up.

IMO Yale is a better undergrad institution because the big name professors at Yale are required to teach undergrad classes and teaching assistants are teaching assistants. Harvard is a better grad institution because big named professors are not required to teach undergrad classes... and Yale Law only accepts a handful of people. ...but that might not be the reasons why tiff is asking, and there are many other reason to consider other than these broad generalizations that may or may not be correct to specific professors or departments.
