When someone has a crush on someone, they are advised by their male peers to profess their love to the said girl or guy (depending on the situation). For Otakus and persons suffering from "yellow fever" this is the assumption of how these events play out:
Scene 8 "Kenji professes his love to his childhood friend Yuka"
[Yuka enters class 3-3 after class to meet with her secret admirer]
Kenji walks in and slowly approaches Yuka as she continues staring outside the classroom windows
Kenji: Yuka, ever since we met that summer in Takeshima, I have grown fonder and fonder of you. My heart beats a thousand symphonies and it aches when I am apart from you. At times we seem close yet in reality we are so distant. I will be traveling to Peru in 3 weeks and I want to tell you. For I know I never have another opportunity to see you.
Yuka: Oh Kenji! I have known you for so long and I wish you the best in Peru! I was expecting someone else to come see me, but I will wait just a little longer
K: Yuka, I...
Y: !?
K: I like...like...I like you...I like you a lot. If there is another in your heart, I will still love you and I always be there for you as a friend!
Y: Oh Kenji!
Yuka and Kenji passionately embrace and slowly kiss. Fade to Black. Cue to Happy Ending Song with montage of episode Highlights
[End Scene 8]
That is how a confession usually plays out in an Anime or any other Asian teenage serial drama. I would have used Anime screencaps as visual aids, but blogger can't handle them because it sucks hard like Steven Segal.
This may work in Japan, Korea, Taiwan Province and even Hong Kong; but the reality in America it is completely different. Japanese, Koreans and Chinese in the US will not act like their native counterparts. However, This misconception from Asian media is so strong that some Otakus have tried to profess their love to their Japanese/Korean/Chinese girls with the assumption they will get the same results like their heroes in those Animes/Dramas.
Here's an example of how it Really plays out:
[Bob bumps into Sayuri in the hallway of the Student Centre]
Bob: Hey Sayuri!
Sayuri: Hi Bob!
B: Sayuri, can I talk to you for a second?
S: Sure
B: Ever since I met you in the Asian Student Committee, I was drawn by your passion for empowering the Asian-American community. What I am trying to say is that I like you Sayuri. I found out you were transferring and I want to tell you my honest feelings before it's too late.
S: Oh.....
B: I was wondering if you're free this Weekend. Maybe we can go on a date?
S: HENTAII!!!! [Sayuri runs away like rabbit hunted by rabid wolves]
After this incident, Sayuri avoids Bobs like SARS.
[Bob is upset and confused. Cue song "How could this happen to me?" by Simple Plan.]
Fact vs. Fiction. I hope Otakus and persons who are ill from the "Yellow Fever" will learn the truth before it hits them in the @$$. Real girls are nothing like what is depicted in Anime or even Asian Serial Dramas.
