Ok, theres this Indian guy in my class. He first strike me as a friendly bloke, a little too friendly methink. He touches me a lot. Put his hand over my shoulder everywhere i go. Talk so close to me i can actually tell what he had for lunch! He calls and keep ask me out. What do i do? I am not gay, but this guy is hell gay!

I am not a homophobic but i have my line of discomfort, and this guy has crossed it many time. Infront of mates!

Is this normal in Indian culture?

Are you allowing him to touch you all the time? He is probably bringing out your inner gayness. First step to becoming a homophobe is denying you are one. Does he smirk when he looks at you? Does he walk behind you instead of in front of you? Does his hands grabs your back when he hugs you?

Men in Indian culture aren't really closer than men in most cultures. Most tend to keep to themselves and do what they must.

If this guy seems more affectionate towards you and it makes you uncomfortable, I suggest just discussing it privately with him and explaining your problem. Chances are he'll appreciate the honesty and will simply lay back a bit.

However, letting it go on may lead him on (assuming he is homosexual) causing more problems in the long term.

It's just as "normal" as it is in any culture. Gay people are everywhere.

Traditional Indian culture frowns upon homosexuality, and it's taboo to discuss it. There are some South Asians that don't even want to accept that gay Indians exist. My one gay friend's parents thought that "Western culture" made him gay.


If someone tells their parents that they're gay, some parents will just marry them off hoping that the homosexuality will disappear.

Most indian men are gay or at least closet homosexuals. Usually they keep it under control but when a smooth petite light skinned asian man with pretty feminine features befriends them then the homosexuality comes out.

alternatively just be honest....if you are not then you are kind of leading him on.....
i have never had a bad reaction to honest telling someone "sorry but i am not interested" and you wont either as long as you are kind,firm and do it as quietly as possible.....my advice is dont wait for him to make a move...pre-empt him and just say it....
and no from what little i know that isnt normal in any culture...
