I have recently heard that in Japan children and parents sometimes bath together. At what age do they stop bathing together? Children/Cheldren? Parents/Children?

lol its not only in japan. They have these public baths in china too. You can get a haircut, backrub, shave. I saw it in this movie called "shower." Plus Jackie Chan movies always show these public showers for some reason.

^Nah, don't listen to them. There's no age limit when it comes to the same sex, especially women. As for kids and parents they'll do it untill they're capable of taking baths by themselves.

I don't understand all the "it's deisturbing" comments. In Japan ppl feel less uncomfortable when it comes to their nudity in such places like baths, and as loong as ppl feel comfortable about the presence of others in such situations like bathing then the age limit is no problem. Specialy for same sex here.

Not funny you guys, as little kids can't shower themselves. I showered with my dad until I was six years old.

When I went to my grandparent's house, they have an o-furo, a tub filled with hot water.

I use to lie in the tub after showering, then my dad would shower.

Anywho, I've gone through a few different threads just checking out the topics and the people around here and such and there sure seem to be some close minded people.

Ya gotta remember there is a huge amount of varying cultures going on around here. You'd think that people here who are not japanese are interested in learning about different cultures and you'd think they'd be a little forgiving but thus far I'm seeing the exact opposite of that.

Almost every topic in regards to something that happens in the japanese culture that doesn't happen in american or european cultures I'm seeing "EWW THAT'S DISGUSTING!"

It's like the book "brave new world" where everyone is brainwashed to believe one thing and anything that deviates from that is VILE and wrong.

Being that I'm 22 right now, no I wouldn't be able to bathe with my parents, but at the same time I know it's because I simply wasn't raised that way nor do I think it's disgusting. (Hypothetical situation here) However, if I were to move to japan and get married over there or something, no doubt my wife would want to bathe with the children and I wouldn't for one second think "eww that's gross", but my american mindset probably wouldn't continue doing that until 20's...probably not even beyond 10 really.

Dont know, sorry for the rant, I just found it odd that there seems to be a lot of people who are too stuck on their own customs to accept that it's normal for other cultures.

wuts wrong with going to public saunas or baths with ur dad? private baths do seem kinda strange tho...
