I like one ancient movie I watched in my childhood. There was a guy dressed like Charley Chaplin or something like that.

I still remember the song. Ok... Indians, don't kill me, I'm just typing from my memory and the song was dubbed by Azeri Turk singer, so it could be unrecognizable.

The song

Avar ahum (hu?), avar ahum ja kartishme un asymma, katar ahum...
garbar nahe, sansar nahe, mot sekise kupyar nahe
uspar kisi semil leka ikrar nakhe
anjarna ...(forgot words)

Dunya (very loud).... kamar ahum.. avar ahum

Thanks. It was funny movie. I liked the scene when he was on elephant with some rural kids. That actor was really funny, not stupidly funny, but talented funny.

I just saw another indian movie this time by Deepa Mehta - the last of her trilogy - Water. It's about widows in India in the time of Gandhiji, how they were ostracized by society and expected to follow the 3 options set down by ancient hindu scriptures :

1. burn with the dead husband in the funeral pyre
2. marry the dead husband's younger brother if the family agrees
3. live in self-denial for the remaining years of her life

The movie Water depicted how young girls in pre-independence India were married off to older men who die and these child widows were committed to an ashram for widows for the rest of the lives. In order to survive and obtain food, the leader of the widows would secretly procure the more pretty widows to perform sexual services for the rich Brahmins in the village.

The best line from the movie was from Gandhi, where he said : 'I used to think that God is Truth. Now I know Truth is God.'

This line awoke the conscience of the widows who realise how oppressed they have been by men's interpretations of the scriptures.

I recommend this movie to all who love India and its ancient culture. icon_smile.gif
