So what if they call us hispanic its not like its a false statement, we have a heavily hispanicized culture but we are also asians geographically and historically. We are the most westernized country in asia and i think people people feel uncomfortable with that fact or they just want make us feel like we are below them. They see the filipino from magazines, tourism ads, local born filipinos and immigrants trying to fit in to society. They dont know what a filipino is so let them wallow in ignorance.

I think the Pandanggo sa ilaw is the folk dance with dancers with oil lamps on their heads.

it's called Jota Manilena, notice that the dancers are holding bamboo castanets.

Ifugaos were also not Hispanized because they were up in the Mountains, and they were headhunters before(Bolo +Basket = your head in it)

So you mean the Ibalois and Kankanaey women are not real Filipinas? They're one of the purest ethnic groups in the Philippines, however, they have yellowish skin.

I've met a lot of co-Pinays from all over the country. They're not really dark as you like to perceive them. Most have golden skin, though not light; but not dark either.

Visayan Filipinos, in my opinion--particularly those in cebu/bohol--are probably one of the most beautiful people I have met and seen.

Hehe, no i didnt. I know about the behaviour thing your talking about and so thats why i tread carefully and dont get far too mixed with it not cuz im a snob but i hate to be seen having a fight or an argument with a fellow filipino, but ive been exposed to more of the white side of things who i consider the much bigger enemy.

You know, you are right. I try to avoid getting into arguments with other Filipinos too, because most of it is petty stuff. There are 400,000-700,000 Filipinos in the LA area, but we aren't even cohesive enough to have our own real ethnic section in LA (Historic Filipinotown is maintained by Hispanics, and mostly populated by Hispanics). For God's sake, there is even a Little Ethiopia! Things like petty arguments disunite the community here, which brings around distrust.

Maybe I'm a little naive for saying this, but out of all the races I've encountered, most of the nice ones have been White. As individuals, they alot of them are nice, but their governments..well, different story. I personally think that the biggest enemy is ourselves, because we are the ones who screw each other more...the Whites just take advantage of it. We need unity!

Ill tell you why and how i could easily live with a fellow filipino downtalking me, if he/she is cursing me to the ground it'll be because they have a personal grievancy with me whereas with a white person they'll measure you up from head to toe and look at you and give a look of "who the hell are you, you aint nothing but a stupid asian who i can talk down to because your a chinaman who will take any crap i throw at you and all you'll do at the end of it is smile and walk away".

Also of what they have done to the filipinos in the past and what they continaully to do so in all their subtlties. If you know your filipino history.

Filipinos are all too readily to extend their "Pakisama" attitude to non filipinos yet very much fall short of giving the same to their own kind.
I choose to do the opposite and do extend by a mile for my fellow filipinos but for the whites in particular i never ever do now. A lot of the distrust have been programmed into us by who have colonized us in the past, sure we put up a good fight and there was just one ingredient they poisoned us with, and that was to devide us. try some parts of mindanao like for example, lake sebu in t-boli. they still embace their native culture and are very hospitable.

talking about those who are fun to be with, i would bet you are right. bohol, cebu, and ilo-ilo for me. theyve got people who knows how to have fun.

The normal everyday filipino who so readily to say they are asians but not filipino's, filipinos that eat using spoon and fork (you might have heard of it on the news lately) or better yet eat with their bare hands, you know, the ones who like to eat rice a lot and caldaretas? Ones that go abroad from the age of 11 and forget how it is to speak tagalog after 4 years migrating to another country. Why what kind of fine filipinos you hang out with?
