I still can't say it's most influential.
There are more Chinese restauraunts than Sushi bars, and Kung Fu has influenced the youth/current media more than anime has.
Thought I guess with video games the trend's shifting towards Japan.
I've heard that Japanese cuisine has just surpassed Chinese cuisine as the most popular asian cuisine in the U.S. I think the trend is definately more towards Japan with their pop/soft culture, its just amazes me how influential their anime, manga and videogames especially are so embraced in the U.S and worldwide, though I myself have mainly only seen whites and vietnamese like it, of course, those are the majority groups where I live.
Are you sure Kung Fu has influenced the youth/current media more than anime? Man, anime is just infecting the mind of American youth, it disgusts me to see all those white anime goth/punk fangirls especially, always spouting "baka", "nani", chan, kun or other honorifics from their big, fat mouths and using those damn Japanese smileys which I am getting sick of, ^________________________________________^
Did anyone ever watch that Chinpokomon episode in South Park? Wouldn't be surprised if those crazy Japanese took over the minds of American otakus and made them slaves to Japan, helping them to try to take over the world once again.
If anyone ever attacked Japan, I'd be seeing legions of white otakus joining to fight for them.

Why don't China and South Korea for example produce much more of their own anime and manga? China and Korea already produce some of their manhwa, and manhua, which I find quite refreshing. It would be interesting to see both of those countries produce their own soft culture like Japan, see American youth get hooked to it and then wanting to learn about their culture and taking Korean and Chinese language classes instead of Japanese ones.
I just cannot see for the life of me why so many of these youth want to learn everything about Japanese cultuer and becoming as Japanese as possible just by viewing their cartoons and comics (oh no, I called anime cartoons, there's probably an otaku mob after me!). I personally actually like American animation overall, which I know otakus would call me insane for thinking that heresy.
