can anyone recommend me some good japanese movies? (not dramas). after watching shinobi, i want to watch more films like it

There's always Azumi (part 1) if you aint seen it...the only movie Shinobi reminds me of....and the main guy from Shinobi plays the main BAD GUY in Azumi.

I liked Azumi better than Shinobi...the fights in Shinobi were just too...not my style...and I didn't like how it ended

Saw lost of movies from Japan including some horror movies. The Ring I, II are good. Also a film about a samurai, oh forgot the name. It was something like "The Sad Samurai" , that was so good film . Already forgot the rest.

I mean there are guys obsessed with japanese girls just because they're japanese, to the point of it being a fetish.......hence you'll have to endure a lot of attention I presume.

Takashi Miike makes some interesting films......rather odd some of them.

Swing girls was a very enjoyable movie.

Ringu was pretty neat but Ringu 2 was a let down! I suggest, instead, Ringu 0: Birthday, over Ringu 2.



I saw some of Casshern. It's a lot of computer special fx. Interesting style I suppose. The look sometimes reminds me of Sin City at times.

Can't say I saw many similarities between Casshern and Sin City, but I do love both films. I think if you watch Casshern, be prepared for a fairly complex film, as there's quite some depth within all the flash and action.

I would also probably recommend the work of Shinya Tsukamoto, he's a very good director. His unique work is often a more acquired taste, like that of Takashi Miike. Personal favourites include Tetsuo and Snake of June.

i like casshern too but lots of people seem to hate it. i also like the returner. its also kinda cheesy but cool.

I saw a movie a while ago called Ghost In A Shell it was pretty good IMHO.

Dare mo shiranai - Nobody knows - about a family of kids who all had different fathers, the mother is gone and the eldest son is trying to take care of the family

battle royale- bloody but good

Two very good films. Most people know about Battle Royale, so I won't say anything more about that.

Nobody Knows was very good, emotional and intelligently filmed. In the end though, I think the patient will appreciate it more, as its quite slow and subtle, without much action on screen.

There was one I liked about a mute couple that was into surfing. It came out like early 90s but can't remember the title. One of the more original titles I have seen as there was little or no talking and a lot of symbols throughout the picture. Not a lot of action per se.
