In 3 and a half weeks I will be going to New York for the very first time. My high school has sent a team of students (including me) to participate and compete in an international, youth debating competition in New York. Could any New Yorkers here or people who are familiar with the city please give me some details on the city itself, such as weather (so I can pack the appropriate type of clothing), places to go for sight-seeing (to burn our free time when we're not debating), and some good places to eat at. I know I could just search for all these details on the internet but I think it'll be much better if some 'natives' provide me with all the necessary information. It'll be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i'm from brooklyn, nyc....where are you from?
im a native so the thought of coming to nyc is like..blah. It is pretty boring in the city lol...only thing for me to do there is shop. There isnt really much to see except tall buildings and native new yorkers yelling "god damn tourists" heres a tip..do not act too much of a tourist and ask pedestrians a lot of questions like where is this and where is that?, they dont like that lol...
maybe its just that i am from the city and it isnt exciting for me....if youre a first timer then i guess itll be fun. For fun places...you can go to chinatown to eat/shop for cheap, soho to shop top quality brands, and herald square( 34th st. ) to shop some more LOL!!!! Times square( 42 st. ) is only a place to see advertisment if you ask me....the whole place is a commercialized area...nothing really interesting but bright lights. Also, central park could be fun for you but most new yorkers would stay away cuz there are a lot of rape/murder and theft going on in there hahaa. The weather now is about on avg 58ish? in 3 weeks you can wear shorts and short sleeves but bring a hoodie just in case of wind =)
have fun...i guess lol

^Those places mentioned are pretty good for first-timers. Times Square and Central Park is a must.
food is great almost everywhere in NYC. It also depends on how much you're looking to spend.
NYC Chinatown is really good; everything there is pretty cheap. If you have a chance, go to Flushing's Chinatown for really good Mandarin/Taiwanese cuisine.
(IMO)
best sushi: Nobu
good bar/lounge/club: Bungalow 8 (I barely got in), Bed, Lotus, 58, Crobar, Butter, Hiro, Soho 323
casual bars that card the least: Ktown bars
best KTV: flushing and Ktown
bubble tea: Tian Ren in NYC Chinatown
The street vending experience is great too. Check it out and have fun while you're there.

Im leaving for NY in 5 days. Its essentially apart of a training program for work so I wont be spending loads of time being a tourist but Ill be sure to hit those places if I do have some time to kill. Thanks for the tips, guys.

gonna meet hana?

i am not able to talk to her online at all whatsoever. shes always busy so i would say no. plus it would be rude if i tell my friend "hey. i'm gonna hang out with someone else for a while" when they planned out everything.

this is what i know. my friend lives around the queens area. but we will be hanging out in the city and i think i might be taken to flushing. not sure. thats where hana is .
