I'll be honest, I have had to deal with racism before for being half-Japanese. Things like the whole "do Japanese eat cats and dogs?" Which I always angrily tell them no. Or, that there's a difference between a Chinese and Japanese.
But, to be honest, the racism I've experienced for my Japaneseness isn't to the extent that full-Japanese or full-Asians might've experienced.
People often times guess my ethnicity wrong, one person has called me a spic. Made a comment about there being too many damn Mexicans, and then I said "I'm not Mexican" they replied "Puerto Rican, whatever same damned thing." I didn't even respond to an ignorant comment like that.
Someone onetime thought I was Russian, but that's wrong too. Actually, I'm half-white and half-asian.
Only Asian-Americans seem to guess right. I guess because they're used to seeing both groups and can tell I don't really fit into either category.
But, when people seem surprised I like to point out the halfvies that are in Hollywood, that
never play as Asians, and the actor who played as "Bill" from "Kill Bill" played as a half-asian when he's full white.
But, let's look at half-asian celebrities.
First, you have the hotty from "Smallville" Kristin Laura Kreuk who's character, Louis Lane, has always been assumed to be a white person.
We also have Jennifer Tilly, who sometimes bleaches her hair blonde for certain roles and no one ever points out that she's an asian with her hair dyed. Other actors act like she was a natural blonde.
Thomas Chong's character from "That Seventies Show" was made fun of by Fez for being white. And, he responded, "First off man, I believe that I'm Chinese."
And, let's not forget Mike Shinoda. He's half-Japanese, like me.
