Eternal rest, grant unto them, O Lord
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May the souls of the faithful departed
through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.

O Allah! Grant protection to our living and to our dead and to those of us who are present and those who are absent, and to our young and to our old folk and to our males and to our females. O Allah! Whosoever Thou grantest to live among us, cause him to live in Islam (submission) and whosoever of us Thou causest to die, make him die in faith. O Allah! Do not deprive us of this reward and do not make us fall into a trial after him.

our gratitude then, for both the prayers in this thread and the assistance extended by your govt and ppl in real life.
i just hope, and so far believe, that you ppl are not competing in the prayers between the religions --might reduce the prayers' effectiveness, IMO

RP sending medical team to Indonesia
By Joel Francis Guinto
Last updated 07:12pm (Mla time) 05/29/2006
(2ND UPDATE) THE PHILIPPINES is sending a 20-member medical team to Indonesia to help victims of the devastating earthquake which left almost 5,000 dead and 200,000 homeless, the civil defense office said on Monday.
The team, headed by emergency room doctors, will depart for Yogyakarta on Tuesday aboard a Philippine Air Force C-130 transport plane, carrying 12 tons of medicines, blankets, food, and other relief supplies, said Glen Rabonza, administrator of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo had expressed sorrow over the disaster and ordered the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) to immediately send a humanitarian mission to central Indonesia's densely populated Java island hit by a 6.3 magnitude quake on Saturday.
"It is the Philippines' duty to come to the aid of our neighbors just as they had extended their hand during the landslide in southern Leyte earlier this year," Arroyo said in a statement, referring to the February tragedy where an entire village was buried under a mudslide, killing an estimated 1,000 people.
The Philippine ambassador to Jakarta, Shulan Primavera, said an initial check showed no Filipino was killed or injured in the earthquake.
There are 15 Filipinos registered as temporary residents in Yogyakarta, Primavera said, citing immigration statistics as of mid-2005.
Doctor Emmanuel Bueno, a military reservist and head of the emergency room of the state-run East Avenue Medical Center, will lead the medical team, which is composed of doctors, nurses, psychologists and orthopedic surgeons, Rabonza said. Bueno was involved in relief operations in the Quezon province landslides in December 2004.
The assistant team leader, Doctor Romeo Bituin, head of the Jose Fabella hospital emergency room in Manila, was part of the Philippine contingent to Sri Lanka, which was hit by the Indian Ocean tsunamis in December 2004.
"Diplomatic procedures for the reception of the humanitarian team in Indonesia have been arranged by the Department of Foreign Affairs through the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta," Rabonza said.
While sending out help to Indonesia, Arroyo ordered disaster-response agencies to update contingency plans and conduct earthquake drills in schools, business districts and other crowded places amid the recent spate of natural disasters in Indonesia.
"Let us not be unduly alarmed, but by all means let every vulnerable community be prepared to meet any contingencies whether brought forth by earthquakes, landslides, floods and other natural calamities," Arroyo said.
Indonesia and the Philippines are prone to seismic activity because of their location along the Pacific "Ring of Fire," an arc of volcanos and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin.
