panjabi weddings r pretty, hain nuh?

I'm Punjabi and have experienced many Punjabi weddings. I'm biased in that I think Punjabi culture is the only good culture in India (obviously that isn't true, but I like to think it is ;-) ). Punjabi weddings are always filled with music, laughter, amazing food, and alcohol. Punjabis like to dance, eat, and get drunk. The ceremony is similar to most Hindu weddings in North India...it might be a bit different for Punjabis...I'm not sure since I've only experienced Punjabi weddings. Sikh weddings are also pretty similar, except they are slightly shorter and aren't as ornate as Hindu weddings. Punjabi weddings focus on having fun a lot too. Sangeet before the wedding is also a lot of fun too, but the wedding is where all the stops are pulled out.

I've been to Bihari and UP weddings here in the states, and they do the same things that you mentioned.

My mom even said that in Rajput weddings back home, they shoot guns in the air to celebrate?

i like bengali weddings. like in devdas. there is an air of orofound beauty & classiness about it.

I agree with Tenjikuronin that I wish we could all get along better. Not just those in the India forums, but also with those of other forums (specifically referring to China v India stuff of late).

i agree...we should all get along...it's so sad to see so much solidarity lacking among indians...it's so prevalent among east asians...i see it all the time among koreans especially.

i know it's not as easy with indians because of our differences (language, religion, caste, etc.), but at the end of the day, we're all indian. we should be appreciative of our differences instead of insulting of eachother, that's what makes our country so unique. what ppl dont understand is, when you insult one group of indians, you're still pretty much insulting yourself, because you're insulting other indians. enough of the north indian/south indian, who's better discussions, we're all great...we're the most successfull minority group in the united states, and we dominate fields like medicine and IT...38% of all doctors in the US are indian. we should be proud of ourselves as a whole, and not constantly differentiate based on regions or states from which we come.

I really don't want to see this forum turn into another RD, Jattworld.com, or IndiaFamilyforum where people desperately try to glorify their "mughal genes" and how they look indistinguishable from Arabs. Wow...I didn't know an innocent thread of mine would turn into trying to prove who's taller than who.


Are there any inter-caste/inter-ethnic Desis on here? Chances are that there's gonna be more of them in the future , and this kind of mentality is just going to make it a lot worse.

From my experience, you feel stuck when Desis are arguing over who's better than the other or when they analyze what part of you came from which side. If I were to state Priyanka Chopra's ancestry on RD right now, I bet a bunch of people would jump and say, "Oh...she got her height and cute face from being Punjabi.............."


WHY would you want to do that? Isn't that disrespectful to the other person's half? That's like going to a half-black/half-white person and saying, "You're half-white? White people are the best! " Uh...hello? One of that person's parents is black.

i think punjabis, kashmiris, gaujratis, south indians look same n have similar features n height if this make u happy. afterall we r all indians . if south indians eat idli dosa then punjabis should eat idli dosa as well. if punjabis dance bhangra then mallus shouldnt dance bharat natyam ..they should also dance bhangra.. after all we r all indians.. n we r all same.

Dear jutt, I guess mugals are quite tall because they are a mix of Turks and mongoloids, They are not small and they are not mongolians, They are hybrid of 2 above stated.


Its really funny act, Infact in punjabi community it happens too, my grandfather used to get his pistol in near relation marriages and the first shoot i made at the age of 6, how insane it was. I havent been to more then 10 marriages in last 10 years and i duly hate all weapons.


Devdas, i liked the movie. Bengali women wear great dressess in parties, because all those handmade works are very popular there and all embroidery is living of many many ppl out there, even most crafted goldsmiths in our area are from west bengal, majority muslims.

mugals word comes from persian word mogul which means mongoloid...moguls were related to turks...but do u know who were original turks....original turks were mongoloid.....
