Is it true that some people in Gilgit/Baltistan have Blond(e) colored hair?

I remember reading about it in the past, but I have never seen a picture of them. Studies show that their blond(e) colored hair is not related to the Greeks and is different from Scandanavian hair.......

There are some blonde tribes in India and Pakistan. Although it's quite hard to find pictures of blonde Indians, I did find a few pictures of blonde Pakistanis and Afghans:

^WOW.....that is quite some Blonde hair! Its different from Scandanavian/Greek hair though, which just proves that the hair type is indegenous to certain South Asian groups (and is not the product of inter-marriage between Greeks and Central Asians-- although that did happen too in many areas)......

Here is a picture of a Nuristani girl who does have Greek heritage (from some of the inter-marriages between Greeks during the time of Alexander).

from what i've heard, there are blond haired ppl in kashmir and the mountainous regions in the north, but i dont think it's like the blond hair u'd see in scandanavia.

but red hair is common...i know a girl with red hair and freckles, and she's 100% indian.

well red hair n blond hair can found in mountaineous regions....actually even in punjab ..if u go to elementary schools u will find blond kids......hair color n skin color darkens with age....

when i was a kid i used to have light brown hair....at school kids use to make fun of me n use to call me "angrej" . when i reached puberty my hair darkened to dark brown....now they r brownish black.....

so kids having lighter hair ist a big deal in india.....at least in northen areas of india.....

the girl i know is an adult, and she's gujurati...one of her brothers has red hair too.

yeah that's true, a lot of indian kids are born with light hair and light eyes, and they do get darker as they get older.

well these traits depend on ur mom n dad...my dad is lighter n use to have lighter hair .....where as my mom is little dark n have dark hair...but me n my sister we both had light brown hair when we were kids....my hair darkened later one (still my hair r lighter than average punjabis) whereas my sisters hair r still light brown....her hair didnt darkened with age

My ex had two cousins with blonde hair and blue eyes, and those kids were 100% Gujarati.

Mind you, a DNA test was done-because the dad was unsure that they were his kids. It turned out they were.

When my mom went to her village in UP, it also turns out I have a distant niece with blonde hair. icon_confused.gif

Just goes to show the diversity amongst Indian people. I get annoyed with the stereotyped look of all Indians being brown, dark hair, brown eyes etc, as it doesn't consider other Indians in the world who don't look like that at all.

Out of curiosity, are you gujarati as well then?

Uttar Pradesh is a state near Delhi/Rajasthan/Bihar...They are not Gujaratis. icon_smile.gif

Yeah, sorry for correcting you if you already knew about UP.

In my part of the world, most second-generationers I come across have never heard of it.

Don't worry about it icon_smile.gif , I don't take it personally and if its something I don't know, I'm further educated, which I welcome with open arms. I don't know a great deal about UP, but know of it (basically, its location and roughly what type of Indian's are there).

What part of the world you in?

Also, I doubt this is common, but are there ever any light haired people in South India?

Yeah, there's a tribe called Pitollollu (sp?) in Hydrabad that supposedly looks Nordic. You can find a few light-haired people here and there in other South Indian groups.

I'm the states...It's mostly Gujaratis, Punjabis (Indian and Paki), and select South Indian groups in my town. My city has one of the highest population of Pakistanis, actually.

Some Pakistanis are also of UP origin (refugees), but I haven't met any.

Thats quite interesting, but I guess in the end its just that they probably have less melanin than others due to ancestory (or something else perhaps), thus resulting in a different appearance to others.

Seems here in the UK its mostly Gujaratis and Punjabis also, though I might be wrong. I myself am gujarati.

Yeah, that's what the other UK people tell me.

Yup. Punjabi is the most common native language in the UK after English (more common than Welsh, Scottish and Irish!)

I've never seen any Desis in the UK (and I assume the US aswell) who had blonde hair. It's only in pictures I've seen blonde Desis (like the ones I've posted before).

I know some with light reddish brown hair actually here in the UK, but its not common icon_wink.gif

I've also seen some Desi brunettes and red-heads here, but I meant naturally blonde Desis (not the ones who bleach their hair though), which are rare outside of the subcontinent.
