No sex please, we're Japanese
Lack of action contributing to declining birthrate

TOKYO, Japan (Reuters) -- More sex. That's what one expert says is needed to solve Japan's baby shortage.

"Japanese people simply aren't having sex," Dr. Kunio Kitamura, director of the Japan Family Planning Association, was quoted as saying by the Japan Times, an English language daily.

An association survey of 936 people between the ages of 16 and 49 showed 31 percent had not had sex for more than a month "for no particular reason" -- a condition known as "sexless."

"As much as subsidies and welfare programs are important, sexlessness is also a critical issue in this problem."

Japan's fertility rate -- the average number of children a woman bears in her lifetime -- fell to an all-time low of 1.25 last year. Demographers say a rate of 2.1 is needed to keep a population from declining.

Japan came last among 41 nations in a poll last year by condom manufacturer Durex, with lovers there having sex just 45 times a year compared with a global average of 103 times a year.

Kitamura said that while many men in workaholic Japan are simply too "stressed out" from their jobs to have enough energy for sex, many other couples simply do not have sex regularly.

In the association's survey, 44 percent of the people who said they weren't having much sex felt that having a relationship with the opposite sex was "very tiresome" or "tiresome."

Kitamura's advice? Couples should talk to each other.

"Ultimately, it's these interactions with the opposite sex that bring out the inevitable animal instinct in us -- to reproduce," he said.

Japan, having one of the worlds largest porn industry, doesn't have enough sex? Hard to believe...

“Kitamura said that while many men in workaholic Japan are simply too "stressed out" from their jobs to have enough energy for sex, many other couples simply do not have sex regularly.”

This part simply explains why and I am fully convinced.

At least Japan is not the world-famous rape heaven.

“Rape is a serious problem in the United States today. The United States has the highest rape rate among countries which report such statistics. It is 4 times higher than that of Germany, 13 times higher than that of England and 20 times higher than that of Japan.”

Porn industry is said to be helping reduce the occurrence of sex crimes. But I don’t know whether porno business now a day is still keep generating good profits. I think the number of singles without a partner is increasing which appears as the higher marriage age and lower fertility rate.

my opinion

Its starts and ends in education

Both the American and the Japanese societies are based on very maleish fundamentalist principles
now people might say "look women in our age and time can work and gain money and support their family" well this isn’t much what I can call "equality" or females who go serve in the army - is actually turning females themselves into sort male behavior navigated path.
Putting it short - female perception is simply fading out
The part of women in western society is of an object.
Women in politics in all cases - the strings are held by males.

I think it’s a bit different in the U.S. and Japan.
Recent changes I can see in Japan is the mismatch between male and female. More young males seek females as a partner and want a well-paid wife rather than a full-time housewife, while young females want to marry earlier than females in 90’s. This may reflect the change in the worsened employment situation to school graduates and increase of temp staff.

It is true that females who are in a professional position may keep the position after marriage if they marry usually in their late 20’s and 30’s. But most females have to give up work for childrearing for a period and the fear of losing their work and income brakes having a baby.

There are 5 causes of sexlessness I can think of:
1. male are too tired to make a girl friend or scared of having one
2. lovers living together before marriage is not so common
3. husband is too tired or stressed from work
4. working wife is too tired or stressed from work
5. couple don’t want a baby
