(Sorry I posted this movie in the wrong section earlier, you can erase the other thread, cuz this IS an Asian entertainment film)
But anyways,

COOL! cool30.gif I never knew they made a movie about the Japanese-American 100th/442nd Regimental combat team on one of their most famous missions in Europe, the dangerous rescue of the lost "Texas" battalion which was all white. It came out in 2005. Not all of the actors are of Japanese descent like Jason Scott Lee and Mark Dacascos. Mr Miyagi is in it embarassedlaugh.gif

If you dont know, the 100th/442nd consisted of Nisei Japanese men who volunteered to fight for America while their families were kept in internment camps in the USA. They are among the most decorated in American history. Truly honorable, but sadly hardly anyone knows about them, and they came back home to an ignorant racist America.

I guess this movie showed at Film festivals. It came out in 2005. Anyone seen it? Is it good?

They do sound a bit corny in the trailer, but Asian americans always sound corny in movies.

Yeah, they were known as the "purple heart battalion" because they all had at least one. At it's max they had 4,500 people but they earned at least 3,900 individual decorations. eek.gif

Sounds interesting.

I can see why most of us haven't heard of it though:

QUOTE
“ONLY THE BRAVE” was produced by Karen Criswell, Eric Hayashi, and Jay Koiwai. The film was funded in part by grants from the California Civil Liberties Public Education Program and donations from families of veterans who served in the 100th Battalion/442nd Regimental Combat Team and the Military Intelligence Service spearheaded by the National Japanese American Historical Society.

I guess none of the big film studios wanted to produce it. It's a shame, it really sounds like a worth while project. But who knows, sometimes films like these (which are screened mostly in film festivals) manage to generate a buz around them and eventually get picked up by the mainstream audiences as well.
