how are chinese people or people from different ethnicities treated in japan because i heard that japan is very homogeneous society and are not very keen on foreigners. is this true? and if so how do they discrimate?
Khanate
they treat koreans better than chinese.

chinese are restricted to their chinatowns and not allowed to integrate into society.

there are numerous korean-japanese in japan and many of them have fully integrated within society.

in other words, japanese hate chinese.

"zainichi" in wiki and u'll get some answers
Khanate
id also like to add that the majority of chinese in japan do not raise their kids in japan due to japan's discrimination against them.

they just stay in japan to make money and they send their kids to china where they are raised by relatives. and they send money back home.

to most chinese in japan, its just a place to work, not a place to live. many of them stay there for 10 years, save up the money and then move back to china.
kaizen
Which is a smart thing to do.

not really. its a very hard way to make a living. but then again, chinese are used to hardship and no matter how much the japanese fu-k with them, those chinese in japan will find a way to survive and thrive.

Japan discriminates against all foreigners to some extent.
Chinese are perceived by you as more hard done by than Koreans yet a lot of Zainichi Koreans make a conscious effort to raise their children and mould themselves in such a way that they are fully integrated into Japanese society. Many Koreans in Japan have never even been to Korea and dont speak Korean icon_confused.gif

Doesn't the japanese government do anything about this discrimination? on the one hand i think japanese people love foreigners like david beckham but on the other hand why do they discriminate them?
Adee
^Well David Beckham is a celebrity, they also like Jackie Chan as well.

When I lived in Japan for three months during the 90's, I was treated fairly. In fact, I felt quite welcomed by them. I rented this room/house just outside of Osaka and my neighbors invited me over for dinner many times. The local cafe owner invited me to his family/friends picnic on the river bank as well. Maybe I'm in the minority here in regards to hostpitality, but from my experience the Japanese were very kind, generous, and friendly. Perhaps I didn't live there long enough to experience any discrimination though. In general, discriminitation is not exclusive to Japan...it's everywhere.

I'm an ABC BTW.

Hey this is my first post here! Hello All! Hajimema$hite!

tengkuafif
Can you tell whether that person is a Chinese or Japanese?
takumiyoshi89
There are some chinese in Japan, but most exculsively in china town in japan. But it's funny, almost all chinese people/tourist I encountered in Japan, they say "watashi wa kankoku-jin desu", which means i am korean. But then later I hear them speaking chinese. Even this Hong kong movie i recently saw about these chinese guys in Tokyo, they say they are korean. funny. isn't it?
Adee
^That's weird.
Ino
extremely weird. confused.gif
MinaNY
That's because it's eaier being associated with largest minority group if you are not Japanese. Isn't it kind of common sense? confused.gif I would do the same! specially sometimes even asians can't tell other asians apart~ hehe

I don't feel bad for Chinese living in Japan, Korea, or even Indonesia.

Was the movie called "Moonlight In Tokyo" with Leon Lai? He played a mildly retarded guy tricked into being a "duck" aka gigolo. He was told to practice saying "watashi wa kankoku-jin desu" because it would attract the ladies due to the Korean wave. HA HA that was a funny movie!

I doubt if you know anything.

1. Japanese govenment does not restricted people from certain country to stay only in certain area.
Japansse govenment allow people from abroad to integrate into Japanse society. actually they are trying this.
support your poits.

2. what do you mean by numerous Zainichi? do you even know their population?

there are more than 600 thousand Zainichi and more thatn 200 thaousand Chinese nationals in Japan, excluding those staying Japan illegally. 600 tousand is just 0.5% of total population in Japan.

3. Most Japanese don't hate Chinese. There is discrimination by some Japanese, but it does not mean most Japanese share that thoughts. I personally like Chinese.

inappropriate quote. what message are you trying to bring?
see the article.

"the (Chinese) pair allegedly tried to grab the officers' guns"

there are many illegal foreigners in Japan including Chinese. They fear police inspection for they would be set back to their country. Some of those foreigners even attacked police with knives on inspection for fear of arrest.

I lived in Japan for 16 years. I believe I did my homework, and I know what I am talking about from the experiences.
