Angkatan Udara Israel Gempur Gaza

GAZA CITY -- Angkatan udara Israel mulai menyerang Jalur Gaza, Selasa (27/6) tengah malam hingga Rabu (28/6) pagi.

Ia mendesak agar setiap warga Palestina tak memberikan informasi atas keberadaan sandera. ''Bekerja keraslah hingga 10 ribu warga Palestina yang ditahan di penjara Israel dibebaskan,'' tegasnya. ap/afp/fer

Israel strike hits Palestinian PM's office

By RAVI NESSMAN, Associated Press Writer

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - Israeli aircraft fired missiles at the Palestinian prime minister's office early Sunday, just hours after a Palestinian official said the soldier whose abduction sent Israeli troops into Gaza is alive and in stable condition.

A Hamas militant was killed in another Israeli airstrike.

Palestinians witnesses said two missiles fired by attack helicopters hit the Gaza City office of Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas early Sunday, slightly injuring a bystander and setting the empty building on fire.

Inspecting his burning office, Haniyeh called the attack senseless.

"They have targeted a symbol for the Palestinian people," he said.

The Israeli military confirmed the attack and said it would "employ all means at its disposal ... to secure the safe return" of 19-year-old soldier Cpl. Gilad Shalit who was abducted by Palestinian militants on Sunday.

The strike, at about 1:45 a.m., came shortly after moderate Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas warned Saturday that the coming hours would be "critical, sensitive and serious" for trying to calm the crisis.

After the airstrike on his office, Haniyeh met Abbas for an hour, his office said, discussing the Israeli attacks and efforts to keep the government functioning despite the arrests. Haniyeh issued a statement calling for foreign intervention to stop the Israeli offensive.

"The international community must shoulder its responsibility," he said.

In other airstrikes after midnight, Israeli aircraft hit a school in Gaza city and Hamas facilities in northern Gaza, where a Hamas militant was killed and another wounded, Palestinian officials said. The military said they were "planning terror attacks against Israel." The 34-year-old Hamas gunman was the second militant killed in the five-day Israeli operation to force the release of Shalit.

Ziad Abu Aen, a Palestinian deputy minister and Hamas official said Saturday that Shalit was wounded but in stable condition.

Another Hamas official, however, cast doubt on the credibility of the statement. Osama Muzami said only the military wing of the Islamic militant group knows the soldier's condition.

There had been no sign of Shalit since he was abducted during a militant raid on an Israeli army post just outside the Gaza Strip that killed two soldiers and two of the attackers.

Abu Aen said "mediators" told him Shalit had received medical treatment for wounds he suffered in the raid and was in stable condition.

"He has three wounds," Abu Aen said in the West Bank city of Ramallah. "I guess shrapnel wounds."

Israeli soldiers and Palestinian militants exchanged fire for several hours Saturday when Israeli tanks and bulldozers crossed into the Gaza Strip and began razing farmland east of Khan Younis. No serious injuries were reported.

The fighting took place north of the position Israeli troops occupied when they entered Gaza on Wednesday. The army said it was carrying out a limited operation in the Khan Younis area and the soldiers were expected to leave soon.

The Hamas-affiliated militants holding Shalit initially said they would trade information about him for all Palestinian women and underage prisoners in Israeli jails. The militants raised the stakes Saturday, calling for an end to the Israeli offensive and the release of 1,000 other prisoners in Israel, including some who are not Palestinian.

The new demand appeared aimed at rallying support in the Arab world.

Israel has ruled out any compromise, saying it would only encourage more abductions.

Israel continued to hold 64 Hamas leaders rounded up in the West Bank Thursday night. They include eight Cabinet ministers.

Israel has also blamed Syria for the kidnapping, noting it gives haven to Hamas' top leaders.

Meanwhile, the fuel supply in Gaza dwindled after Israel cut off the flow through a pipeline. Gas stations across the territory ran dry, and human rights groups worried that if fuel shipments were not restored in the coming days, Gaza could face a humanitarian crisis as generators used to pump water and power hospitals stopped working.

Authorities have been relying on generators since an Israeli airstrike Tuesday destroyed Gaza's only power plant, knocking out 43 percent of the territory's electricity supply, the United Nations said. The remaining electricity comes from Israel.

The Israeli army said Israel had increased the supply of electricity to Gaza to make up for the power shortage and would work to allow food and fuel in over the coming days.

It is not Indonesian interest to open diplomatic relationship to Israel, It would ruin huge economic relationship Indonesia's advantage with Arabs countries. Indonesia goverment strongly support Palestinian and strongly supported by majority Muslim Indonesian except only minority catholic Indonesian and minority chinese Indonesian who support Israel.

Indonesia just recently strongly condemn Israel military agression and act of violence and terorism against Palestine and urge UN secutity council to withdraw Israel troop from Gaza.

True, it is better to keep unofficial diplomatic relationship with Israel like today (just a week ago, Indonesian govt signed a trade agreement with Israel). Meanwhile, continue openly supporting Palestine in order to keep appearances as majority Muslim state while attracting nuclear technology and money from Iran and some Arab states.

Indonesia should always PLAY BOTH SIDES in an overseas conflict that has nothing to do with us, in keeping with Indonesia's "free and active" foreign policy.

Indonesia condemns Israeli offensive

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

The government and Muslim groups have condemned Israel's ongoing military operation in Gaza and demanded the release of arrested Palestinian officials.

Thousands of Muslims massed Sunday in front of the U.S. Embassy in Central Jakarta to support the Palestinian people and denounce the latest deadly offensive by Israeli troops against them.

The protesters, mobilized by the Islamist Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), also shouted anti-American slogans as they accused Israeli troops of committing human rights violations.

They gathered at the capital's main Istiqlal mosque before heading to the U.S. Embassy. Many on the one-kilometer march waved the Palestinian flag and wore the party's white T-shirt with black and yellow logo, while others donned black headbands.

One banner said, "Solidarity for the independent people of the Palestine," while another poster said: "The real terrorist is Zionist Israel". Others also accused the U.S. of terrorism and bias in favor of Tel Aviv.

On Saturday, the Indonesian government issued a statement saying the Israeli operation was unlawful and excessive.

"The use of excessive military force and the demolition of civilian installations by Israel that have caused widespread human impacts are clearly against international laws," the statement said.

"The Indonesian government calls for the aggression and the violence to be ended and the arrested Palestinian officials released soon."

Indonesia also urged both sides to return to using dialog and negotiations as the way to resolving the long-standing Middle East conflict.

The PKS leader called on the United Nations and Washington to pressure Israel into ending its action.

"This is a violation of the sovereignty of the Palestinian people," Tifatul Sembiring was quoted as saying by AP, demanding sanctions against Israel for "gross human right violations by the Israeli soldiers".

Later, protesters "stoned" a series of wooden pillars, representing the United States and Israel, with wads of tissue paper. It was supposed to symbolize the pebble-throwing ritual, known as the stone of the devil, carried out each year by Muslim pilgrims in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Picture of the United States flag and U.S. President George W. Bush were pasted on top of the replicas.

Scores of policemen stood on standby between the demonstrators and the embassy fence, while embassy security forces were also on guard behind the barrier.

Central Jakarta Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Bambang Hermanu was quoted by AFP as saying about 500 police personnel were deployed in and around the site of the protest.

After an hour of peaceful demonstration, the protesters moved their rally to the United Nations mission on a main avenue another one kilometer away, before planning to disband.

PKS is a fledgling party that has drawn enormous support among urban Muslims. It advocates clean government and respect for Islamic laws and teachings within the secular republic.

Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, is a staunch supporter of the Palestinian struggle for nationhood and has no diplomatic relations with Israel.

Kadin visits Israel to drum up business

Rendi Akhmad Witular, The Jakarta Post, July 07, 2006 - Jakarta

A delegation from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) recently made its first-ever visit to Israel to seek closer business relations and assistance for Indonesia's economy.During the visit from June 25-29, the country's powerful business lobby signed its first economic agreement with the Manufacturers Association of Israel (MAI) to cooperate in the business and industrial sectors. The agreement, signed by Kadin chairman Mohamad Suleman Hidayat and MAI president Shraga Brosh, covers arrangements for business cooperation and exchange of students, farmers and public figures between the two nations. Under the deal, the two groups will work to exchange business information, forming joint business projects, and assist Indonesian and Israel businesspeople in their activities in the two countries.

Kadin's visit was made at the invitation of MAI and the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute (EICI), which was sent around a month ago, Hidayat told The Jakarta Post. "They want to open trade relations with Indonesia. They already have that relationship but through third parties in Singapore and China. The visit was in our capacity as an independent business association, and was merely for business (purposes)," Hidayat said Thursday. The countries have no bilateral diplomatic ties because Indonesia is a staunch supporter of Palestinian statehood.

During the trip, Hidayat was accompanied by several leading businesspeople, including John A. Prasetio, Chris Kanter, Shinta Wijaya, Sandiaga Uno, Maxi Gunawan, Fachry Thayeb and former minister of industry and trade Luhut Pandjaitan. Two executives from the country's largest Muslim organization Nadhlatul Ulama -- Suhairi and Masdar Subagyo -- also joined the group.

As the world's most populous Muslim country and Southeast Asia's largest economy, Indonesia's position is considered important by Israel for its economy and politics. Hidayat said that although Kadin had never officially informed the government about the visit nor sought any permission for it, several government officials knew about it beforehand. The Israeli Embassy in Singapore was involved in arranging the trip.
"I repeat, this was purely for business interests. There is no diplomatic or political issues involved in it. Our challenges now are to realize the cooperation for our benefit without resulting in any political implications," he said.

As an independent business entity, Kadin has also visited Taiwan, despite the lack of formal business ties, to ink several business agreements. Investment from Taiwan ranks among the highest here. Hidayat said a joint working committee was formed between Kadin and the MAI to ensure that the agreement was implemented, with a pilot project in agriculture and horticulture to be launched soon in Indonesia. "Kadin wants to explore business opportunities from Israel in the fields of agriculture, horticulture, information technology and advance technology equipment. More Israeli investment will be available soon here but through a third party," he said.

According to Kadin, two-way trade between Indonesia and Israel was valued at around US$160 million last year, up from $120 million in 2004. Indonesia mostly imported chemicals and electronic components valued at some $14 million from Israel last year, and predominantly exported electronic products, plastics and rubber.

Players upset by default from Fed Cup tie with Israel

Abdul Khalik and Damar Harsanto, The Jakarta Post, July 07, 2006 - Jakarta

National women's tennis players and association officials were disappointed Thursday by the government's decision to default the Fed Cup tie against Israel in Tel Aviv due to the host's military offensive in the Gaza strip.

"As an athlete, I feel sad and disappointed by the decision because we are prepared and fully concentrated for the tie," world number 273 Angelique "Angie" Widjaja told a press conference. "But as citizens, we have to go along with what the government says." The decision means that Indonesia, currently ranked 16th in the women's team standings, cannot qualify for the World Group II next year and will face a host of penalties.

Teammate Wynne Prakusya, who enjoyed a sparkling second half of 2005 after returning from a long layoff due to knee problems, was set to play once again after recovering from another injury. "I feel disappointed by the decision although I can still play in other international events to earn points," said the world number 287.

Indonesian Tennis Association (Pelti) chairwoman Martina Widjaja said the players would bear the brunt of the decision. "The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has warned us that we will face consequences, ranging from suspension from playing in international tournaments, demotion from the World Group and financial penalties," Martina said. "Should the suspension last two years, then we may miss the opportunity to play in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing." The Foreign Ministry said in May it would allow the national squad to play Israel.

"We had thought that since it is sport and has nothing to do with politics, we could give our approval. But things are different now. We need to show our sympathy and solidarity to the Palestinian people," ministry spokesman Desra Percaya said Thursday. "We have decided to pull out of the tie as we can no longer tolerate what Israel has done to Palestine, which has experienced a humanitarian disaster because of the collective punishment." Indonesia is a staunch supporter of Palestinian statehood and does not have diplomatic relations with the Zionist state.

Asked if Indonesia was ready to pay a reported fine of US$50,000 from the ITF, as well as reimbursement of the Israeli association's expenses for hosting the tie, Desra said it was only a "material matter", and stressed that "principles are more important". Indonesia and Israel have met twice previously in Fed Cup ties, in Italy in 1974 and in Japan in 1981. Israel won on both occasions.

No problem.

Your US govt on November 22, 2005 announce its decision to help Indonesia "modernise" its military establishment (TNI). They couched it as for 'maritime security' over the threat of counter terrorism.

The strategic importance of Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago-state that straddles important sea lanes, has never been missed by the USA. But what is more clear now is that the USA is trying to coopt Indonesia for a policy of creating a second line of China containment, after having reinforced their long established military alliance with Japan.

This decision is Washington's bid to prevent China from emerging as a competitor in the Asia Pacific region.

"Indonesia menyerukan agar Israel menghentikan agresi militernya termasuk membebaskan para pemimpin Palestina.

Israel Gunakan Senjata Radioaktif

Pejuang Hizbullah tangkap dua serdadu Israel.

AS, Condoleezza Rice. ap/afp/fer/has

Tentara Israel Serang Lebanon

Sebanyak 47 warga sipil terbunuh, puluhan lainnya terluka.

Bandara pun akhirnya ditutup.

U know my neighbors are lebanese muslims and they are going berserk crying and wailing about the attack by Israel on their country... it's really horrible to see the war unfolding in the middle east. Why must normal people in the street pay the price for a war that is not even anything to do with them? The countries that the US and Israel really wants to get is Syria and Iran. This attack against Hizbollah for kidnap of 2 israeli soldiers (now rumoured to have been smuggled into Iran) is a pretext. sure.gif

This new conflict is driving oil prices to record high. This could destabilise world economy, including weakening Indonesian rupiah and stock markets, and might force an increase in interest rates again.

Let's hope for a quick fix of this recent conflict, while Indonesia should speed-up its biofuel and nuclear power projects, to minimise impact of Middle Eastern violence on our country.

^ Actually even the former GAM rebels itself (KPA) disagreed with shariah law, because Islamic law tends to wipe-out feeling of ethnic-nationalism and chauvinism that separatism feeds upon.

Let Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam remained under Islamic law until their feelings of ethnic-chauvinism are erased. This outcome is good for Indonesia and the might of Garuda Pancasila.

Indonesia condemns Israel incursions in Lebanon

Indonesia firmly condemned Israeli retaliatory attacks in Lebanon that killed over 60 innocent people, and urged the United Nations Security Council to take an extra effort to settle the conflict through dialogue, Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda said here on Friday.

The conflict in the Middle East can not be addressed through military action, but dialogue, Wirajuda said, noting that therefore, Indonesia urged concerned parties, including Palestine to return to negotiation table.

"We condemned the literally military move conducted by Israel that has brought fatalities among the innocent civilians," he said at a joint press conference with his visiting Ecuador counterpart Francisco Carrion after their meeting.

"Therefore we urge the United Nations Security Council to perform its duty in line with its mandate to end the conflict and to manage the situation in the Middle East, through resuming dialogue," he said.

Indonesia persistently support Palestine to establish an independence state, he added.

Meanwhile, Ecuadorian Foreign Minister expected that the United Nations Security Council could take any measure under the mechanism of the United Nations to restore peace.

"Peace can not be restored without dialogue and conversation," he said.

On Thursday morning, Israeli aircraft bombed runways at Rafik Hariri International Airport, the country's only international airport, forcing flights to divert to Cyprus. Later in the day, Israeli aircraft also attacked two military airbases and gunboats fired shells at fuel tanks at Beirut airport. A total of 55 Lebanese civilians were killed in Israeli raids across the country.

RI anger grows at Israeli attacks

Kurniawan Hari, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

The government and the public have denounced the loss of civilian life from the Israeli military offensive in Lebanon and Palestine, and urged the UN to help end the worsening conflict.

Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda appealed to all sides to return to the road map for peace and to settle problems through dialog and negotiation.

"We condemn the military actions that have killed many innocent civilians," he said after a meeting Friday with his Ecuadorean counterpart Francisco Carrion at the Foreign Ministry in Jakarta.

"We urge the UN Security Council, in line with its mandate to maintain peace and security, to make an extra effort for dialog and negotiations."

In Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono called on Tel Aviv to desist from further attacks.

"Indonesia urges Israel to stop its military actions," he was quoted as saying by Antara newswire during an impromptu press conference after inaugurating several new schools in Bireuen, an area hard hit by the 2004 tsunami.

"The UN and the international community must take concrete actions to prevent the escalation of the armed conflict."

The President said he hoped the humanitarian aid would continue to reach Palestinians despite the Israeli attacks.

Meanwhile, hundreds of students in Bandung, West Java, took to the streets to condemn Israeli aggression. They urged the government to pressure the UN to send a peacekeeping force to the Middle East.

The students, representing several organizations, called for a boycott of Israeli products by Muslim communities. Wearing white headbands with the message "Save Palestine", some students burned the picture of U.S. President George W. Bush, who they said supported Israeli military actions.

The Indonesian Muslim Brotherhood (Parmusi) in Jakarta also condemned the Israeli offensive, saying it was tantamount to a terrorist act and military arrogance.

The organization also condemned the United States for its support of Israel, because it "contradicted the values of humanity and erodes the effort to bring peace".

Hundreds of members of the Forum for the Communication of Mosque Activists (FKAM) in Surakarta, Central Java, set an Israeli flag on fire during a protest, Antara reported.

Rally coordinator Ahmad Fuad said the military offensive on Palestine displayed Israel's arrogance.

"The offensive not only hurts the sense of humanity and justice, but also violates human rights and threatens world peace," he said.

The protesters urged the government to take part in bringing peace to the Middle East. "The UN and the Muslim world must help the Palestinians," Ahmad said. Related story on Page 3

LOL, General Moerdani never had anything to do with Aceh, as he was already retired by then. And the recent GAM conflict is ethnic-based, not Islamic-based as DI-TII rebellion which ended in 1962.

And your hilarious accusation that a "Catholic general" was the one who crushed Islamic terrorists is ridicilous. Those who crushed West Javanese DI-TII was an ethnic-Sundanese general Ibrahim Adjie. Those who wiped-out Central Javanese DI-TII was an ethnic-Javanese general Achmad Yani. Those who annihilated South Celebesian DI-TII was an ethnic-Bugis general Andi Muhammad Jusuf. Those who ended Acehnese DI-TII was an ethnic-Acehnese colonel Muhammad Jasin. Those who wiped-out Lampung Talangsari fanatics who murdered a Koramil commander was a devout Muslim general Abdullah Hendropriyono. It is clear majority Indonesian Muslims completely despised fanatical violent terrorists.

Majority of Indonesian people as represented by DPR completely approved the 2003 military offensive, which by wiping-out half of rebel's numbers and combined with tsunami, forced GAM to surrender in 2005.

BTW, the Hezbollah managed to cripple an Israeli gunboat using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) loaded with explosives, killing four Israeli sailors! And their rockets manage to reach Haifa, deep inside Israel. In their first assault, they managed to inflitrate into Israel, destroy an Israeli tank and killed 8 Israeli soldiers with no loss to themselves!

Wow, seems like they've been preparing for this confrontation for a long time. This must be ordered by Iran, who is trying to show the Americans and Israelis how much damage they can do using their Shi'ite Lebanese proxy the Hezbollah.

Arab League criticizes Hezbollah for attacks
By Hassan M. Fattah The New York Times

Published: July 17, 2006

BEIRUT With the battle between Israel and the Lebanese militia Hezbollah raging, key Arab governments are taking the rare step of publicly blaming Hezbollah, underscoring their growing fear of the group's main sponsor, Iran.

Saudi Arabia, supported by Jordan, Egypt, several Gulf states and the Palestinian Authority, chastised Hezbollah for "unexpected, inappropriate and irresponsible acts."

They acted at an emergency Arab League summit meeting in Cairo.

The Saudi foreign minister, Prince Saud al-Faisal, said of Hezbollah's attacks on Israel, "These acts will pull the whole region back to years ago, and we cannot simply accept them."

It is nearly unheard of for Arab officials to chastise an Arab group engaged in conflict with Israel, especially as images of destruction at the hands of Israeli warplanes are beamed into Arab living rooms.

But the willingness of those governments to defy public opinion in their own countries underscores a shift that has been prompted by the growing influence of Iran and Shiite Muslims in Iraq and across the region. The way some officials see it, Arab analysts said, Israel is the devil they know, but Iran is the devil that could win.

"There is a school of thought, led by Saudi Arabia, that believes that Hezbollah is a source of trouble, a protégé of Iran, but also a political instrument in the hands of Iran," said Adnan Abu Odeh, a sociologist in Jordan. "This school says we should not play into the hands of Iran, which has its own agenda, by sympathizing or supporting Hezbollah fighting against the Israelis."

Hanna Siniora, a Palestinian analyst with the Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information, noted with approval on the group's Web site on Sunday the Arab leaders' opposition to Hezbollah.

"For the first time ever, open criticism was heard from countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan against the unilateral actions carried by radical organizations especially Hezbollah of Lebanon," Siniora wrote.

The willingness of the governments to openly defy Arab public opinion, which has raged against Israel's actions in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, underscores the readjustment of risks Arab leaders believe they face.

"Who's benefiting?" asked a senior official of one of the Arab countries critical of Hezbollah, speaking anonymously because he is not authorized to do so publicly. "Definitely not the Arabs or the peace process. But definitely the Iranians are."

There may be no material proof of Iran's involvement in the conflict, he added, but all indications point to an Iranian role.

Arab leaders have long been wary of Iran, a non-Arab Muslim country. But with Iran exercising increased influence in Iraq and stirring the emotions of Arab and Muslim masses frustrated about the occupation of Iraq, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the U.S. role in the region, fear of Iranian influence has increased.

"You have Hezbollah, a Shiite minority, controlled by Iran, and the Iranians are embarrassing the hell out of the Arab governments," said Riad Kahwaji, managing director of the Institute for Near East and Gulf Military Analysis in Dubai. "The peace process has collapsed, the Palestinians are being killed and nothing is being done for them. And here comes Hezbollah, which is actually scoring hits against Israel."

From its birth in 1982, Hezbollah has relied on Iranian support and arms, in addition to logistical support from Syria.

Israel has accused Iran of providing Hezbollah with more sophisticated weaponry and has said Iran's Revolutionary Guards have trained guerrillas in Lebanon. The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Hamidreza Assefi, brushed off those accusations on Sunday, saying Iran offered Lebanon and Syria only "spiritual and humanitarian support."

"Militer memiliki banyak kemungkinan tindakan.

Yeap, Saudi Arabians and most other Arabs are Sunnis, they are always suspicious with Shi'ites (such as Iran and Hezbollah) and Alawites (which is the sect embraced by al-Assad family which controlled Syria). They prefer Lebanon to be ruled by Sunnis such as the Hariri family, rather than seeing that country being dominated by Iranian Shi'ite proxy Hezbollah.

BTW do you think Israel will go all the way invading Lebanon to destroy the Hezbollah like they did in 1980s to destroy the PLO?
