Both India and Pakistan are multi-racial countries.

I'd say multi-ethnic.

Considering both North and South Korea are ethnically homogeneous do you think they have a good chance at reunifying.

Why do you think that things will be any different after the communist government falls?

North Koreans may embrace Democracy after the Communit Government falls. icon_smile.gif
MING-LOYALIST
NK is absoluted fu-ked up right now.

It maintains a million man army for a 23 million population and spends a quater of its tiny economy on military and brainwashes its people to hate americans and southkoreans and rever kims like a god.

Whole NK is fake, only the showcase city of pyongyang has electricity and sufficient food supply while everywhere else its famine like.

They banned mobile phones and use Intranet not internet plus their tv and radio is tuned to state channels only.

Lets hope KJI's successor is not so lunatic.

plus that NK could be hit by international sanctions soon for developing nuclear weapons.
kpham001
Nk will not unite with south korea unless kim jung ill and his party is out of power. Would you think that the north regime would just give away its power over the north? No way!!!
strangeland
No, even if Kim Jong Il fell tomorrow, it would be two generations before the north and south could reunify. South Korea isn't yet as rich as West Germany, and North Korea is FAR poorer than East Germany.

Would most South Koreans suffer the sacrifices necessary to build and develop North Korea? I doubt it.

Would North Koreans come to resent their wealthy cousins to the south? Yes, if they don't already.

North Korea is badly environmentally and socially damaged by decades of totalitarian rule. South Korea is a thriving, prosperous modern democracy. It will take many years for unification to take hold, even if the populations of both overwhelmingly support it now.
CJK
Yes, we all know north and south korea are on opposite ends of the spectrum, but that doesn't limit it from unification.

if north korea were to falter and unify with the south it would be a controlled unification.
Planners dont plan on just opening the DMZ border and letting in a flood of refugees to seoul and other cities.
North Korea will have to be in a transition state of autonomy, until it somewhat catches up to the rest of the country. It'll take some time to standardize everything in the north to what it's like in the south. It would kind of be like how mainland chinese need a pass or visa to get into major domestic economic centers and vice versa.

This is a gradual process.

the weird thing is, very few north koreans will have living relatives in south korea in 10 years... most of them will tho, have relatives in manchuria, bc of so many escapees and refugees. so they may have more personal ties to unify with china... u never know.

if ROK waits too long to start being aggressive, it may be too late. we need a president in 2008 who can outsmart KJI.

This could be your first post that I've ever totally agreed with 3K.

Wow, what's going on in the world?
