I think more taxes on the luxary things, and less on essentials like food, clothes. Also on positive things like environmentaly friendly products.
tafc1
I disagree the taxes are damn high enough! and most scum dont pay it anyway cuz their on the dole and working "cash in hand"
Sephy
Income tax I think should be lowered, whilst VAT should increase (on certain things).
charlee
Fines on people who don't recycle properly.

The plastics go in the green bin for gods sake. madgo.gif
Sephy
^ Ohh hell yea.. the place where I work doesn't recycle one bit.. It's a wine merchants. There is so much glass and cardboard that is thrown away.. we asked for a recycling bin but they refused. madgo.gif
Suijen
Sephy: It'll probably work better if you have naturally high taxes on industries that pollute, and give them tax breaks for lowering pollution. Incentives and stuff.
Adee
^I think we're one of the worst in Europe when it comes to recycling. embarassedlaugh.gif

How about we just tax america for all their pollution? We'd all be rich buggers.

Wrong...I'm a student. XD

Don't get me started on the interest they claim on the student loan you're forced to take to pay for University materials and tuition fees. I didn't even need the stupid loan in the first place but took the minimum one out to ease it up on the financial side for my parents. Now what about people who take out the full available loans?

So in the end...people who can't afford to pay for University end up paying more in total than the people who can?!

?!!!!?!!?!?!?!
Suijen
^ They don't start collecting or adding in interest until you're done with college right?

Adding interest now. T

They don't collect till I start earning, but I've got 2 more years to go and 2 more loans to go which now I've just got to cover the fee so it's much smaller, so god knows what the figures are gonna be when I leave uni. icon_confused.gif

Still deciding on whether not I should take out one next year or not. Materials have cost a b!tch load this year.
Adee
I always wish I can win the lottery and pay back my student loan all at once.

If your parents have cash on the spare, it's probably better to use that then to take out a loan.

The population of Norway is 4.5 million.

The population of Sweden is 9 million.

The population of Finland is 5.2 million.

The population of London alone is 7.5million...

In America they sell more firearms a year than Norway has people....see where I'm going with this? icon_redface.gif

Its 3.2% is it not? At least thats what my friends is. Thats $hitloads lower than your typical loan, its lower than pretty much all bonds and ISAs so I don't know how you can complain about that seeing as you can make money from it.

People who really cant afford to pay get it for free, the others can afford it, materials for mine were around £200-300 shrug.gif Dunno how much your materials were.

If your parents have the cash its best to use that but still take out a loan and put it in a bond seeing as the bond interest rates are higher than the student loan rates.

There are some people out there who can afford it but it means they'll be tight for money over next couple of years or so...especially with the new rates of tuition fees, my bro has been totally screwed over.
Adee
^How is he screwed over? It just mean it's gonna take longer to pay it all back right? It's not as if you have to pay it back all at once.

£3k is jack especially if you live at home besides if your parents are earning over £37k they can easily afford it and you can earn interest on your loan, if not........free money.

And the state doesn't provide grants?

It does but if your parents earn over £37k you dont get it, below that its divided into I think two categories of how much you get depending on your parents wages. The unis also offer scholarships, generally not full fee ones though, but they use your A level grades to calculate those most of the time then they also offer bursaries so I dont know wtf ppl are whinging about.

Oh that's similar to the US's policy then.

Takashi, are those Grants, or Loans?

Takashi, are those Grants, or Loans?

Grants are income assessed as are bursaries and scholarships are generally related to your academics, loans can also be income assessed but with loans the more your parents earn the more you can borrow up to a certain point anyway when it actually starts decreasing again.
Suijen
And if your parents earn less than 37K a year, then the government will subsidized a person's tuition with a grant right? Not just a loan, but a grant?
Sephy
I'm so happy that when I go to University I will not come out of it in dept. I don't want to ever be in debt.

Aye, a certain amount of a grant/bursary, under 15k I think you get pretty much the full fees paid for you then from that to about £25k is half of that and it gradually decreases until around £37k where you dont get any grant. Those whose parents earn £37k get higher loans than those whose parents earn only £25k but if they earn £50k their loan is lower than the £37k ones icon_confused.gif

Edit: Though really people are only in debt when they go to uni because they didnt save any of their money in the first place, they just spent it on absolute $hite so its their own fault.

That news about the white boy who was killed by those asian bastards made me cry. Seriously.
Sephy
^ It's a horrible thing and is not going to help when it comes to gangs of whites beating up Asians.

I know. A trio of stupid pricks and hell'll break loose.

It reminds me of what happened to that Stephen Lawrence boy - but what these asians did to this white boy was ten times worse. Stephen Lawrence didn't get tortured and burned alive.
