Manila Bulletin
Popular young stars from two rival networks star in Regal’s ‘White Lady’
by: Crispina Martinez Belen

Some of the country’s more popular and talented young stars who’re from the rival networks, GMA 7 and ABS-CBN, are gathered together in Regal Entertainment’s latest suspense-horror flick, "White Lady," top-billed by Angelica Panganiban, JC de Vera and Pauleen Luna.

These young stars are Glaiza de Castro, Katarina Perez, Ketchup Eusebio, Jason Abalos, Gian Carlos and StarStruck’s Iwa Moto and Pinoy Big Brother’s Franzen Fajardo. The executive producer, Mother Lily, said they are the young talents to watch out for. She had so much faith in these young stars that she intends to give them more projects in the future. She’s most specially impressed with Iwa Moto, who she predicts to become a big star in no time.

Iwa Moto’s ecstatic for being one of FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women

By WALDEN SADIRI

She’ll be turning 18 on Aug. 29 this year but GMA Artist Center’s rising young star Iwa Moto recently had a "Sweet 16" debut on FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women edition and it’s her first time to appear in the very popular men’s magazine!

"I’m flattered because even if I hadn’t posed for their magazine I was voted in for the first time. This is part of the good opportunities I’m getting at kahit papaano publicity yun. It’s also about voting so ibig sabihin gusto po ako ng mga tao," Iwa giggled during an intimate interview at the Cafe Imperial for the film "White Lady."

She added that it also meant a lot that people would like to see her in FHM someday.

"Siguro gusto lang nila akong maghubad...wala namang pressure kasi nasa GMA Artist Center yun kung papayagan nila ako. Ako naman kasi kinakaya ko lahat...but I signed a contract with them and I trust them and I know they’ll take care of me and my career."

Iwa stressed that even if she is not managed by GMA Artist Center, going sexy would still be a remote possibility. She even gave it a 3 out of 10 chances of it happening.

"I also respect myself. And I don’t want to bare just for the sake of money. I never dreamed of that happening in my life!"

Aside from her young age, Iwa is also concerned about her family and people around her. In every decision she makes, she would take them into consideration because she didn’t want to hurt their feelings. She believes that the right and opportune time will come for her to bare and do mature roles in the future.

"Open naman ako sa mga bagay bagay... siguro kaya ko, po!, pero hindi pa ngayon... tago muna ng konti. For me dapat marunong ka, po! Ang tinuro sa akin ng GMA Artist Center, hangga’t may career pa ako huwag muna akong pa-sexy. Because if I show everything, people would tire of me easily," she reasoned out.

Iwa Moto is among the 17 GMA Artist Center talents who made it to FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women with premium actresses Angel Locsin and Katrina Halili ranking No. 2 and No. 1 respectively. Other GMAAC making it to the lists were Jennylyn Mercado (6), Regine Tolentino (30), Iza Calzado (40), Valerie Concepcion (44), Christine Reyes (46), Isabel Oli (49), Chynna Ortaleza (53), Jackie Rice (54), Nadine Samonte (55), Julia Clarete (63), LJ Reyes (65), Ryza Cenon (68), Sheena Halili (74) and Yasmien Kurdi (75).

Even if she was voted in as one of FHM’s 100 sexiest, if that time comes when she would pose, she also wouldn’t mind appearing in Maxim like her co-actress in "White Lady," its female lead Angelica Panganiban.

"Maganda po ang mga pictures ni Angelica sa Maxim, hindi po malaswa at kaya ko rin po yun kasi I also wear two-piece bathing suits. Pero GMA Artist Center talaga ang bahala and magpapaalam pa rin ako sa mommy ko," she said.

Iwa Moto at the moment doesn’t need to cross over the sexy genre since her showbiz career is flourishing in its own natural way. She is in QTV-11’s series entitled "Posh" and a mainstay in "Nuts Entertainment." Her sponsors include Bum Equipment, Skechers, No Curfew and E-Salon.

Aside from her movie debut via Regal Films, "White Lady," Iwa is scheduled to star alongside Yasmien Kurdi, Christine Reyes, Nadine Samonte, Valerie Concepcion and Angelica Panganiban in an indie film entitled "Pitong Dalagita" which is based on the true story of seven students who committed suicide.

"Unlike sa ‘White Lady’ I’m naïve here and it takes me a long time to absorb what I’m being told," again, Iwa giggled.

Suicide is a subject that the young actress could relate to. In the past, she herself tried taking her own life by slashing her wrist. Her yaya rescued her by bringing her to the hospital for treatment.

So what did she learn from her suicide attempt?

"Huwag kang maglalaslas kasi magkakapeklat ka lang," she laughed. "Well, it’s never too late to change. Hindi mo naman alam kung anong mangyayari sa yo bukas so you don’t have to commit suicide!"

She was then only 16 years old and the eldest in the family. And because she couldn’t take anymore her family problems, she decided to end it all. Luckily for her, she survived and now believes there’s more to life and she is now dreaming of becoming a star someday which big time movie producer Mother Lily Monteverde believes she will achieve!

Iwa Moto (Aileen Iwamoto in real life) is earning herself a college degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Her goal is to finish college and hopefully go into the food chain business. Also in her wish list is to someday be able to record an album!

I believe that one of the qualifications to being filipino is having some filipino blood. By if u r embarrassed to be called pinoy/pinay and become a wannabe ______ like Jasmine Trias and Tia Carrera then u automatically should lose ur right to be considered part of the filipino community.

And yes I believe she is probably more proud to be pinay then u. Sorry but I don't really trust someone with a SN of The-Foreigner

Regal Films’ White Lady is a movie that’s sure to send more than a chill down your spine!

Set largely in the dark and eerie campus of the Arts Academy, White Lady’s story centers on Pearl (Pauleen Luna), a simple and smart girl from the province who has just arrived in the city to study, and the clique of students led by Mimi (Iwa Moto), a pretty, rich and popular girl who gets by through bullying others. Mimi’s minions include basketball jock Joshua (Jason Abalos), painter and Mimi wannabe Eva (Katarina Perez), film and photography major Jowee (Glaiza De Castro), and troublemaker and band frontman Hector (Ketchup Eusebio).

Pearl enrolls in the Arts Academy with her best friend and longtime buddy Jonathan (Gian Carlo), who has a secret admiration for her. Upon their entry into school, Mimi takes Pearl and Jonathan into her fold, befriending them so as to get favors from the smart and studious Pearl. But Pearl sees right through her. Jonathan, on the other hand, is seduced and swayed by the glamour of the “in” crowd. Soon after, Pearl and Jonathan become estranged.

For reasons she cannot explain nor understand, Pearl is haunted by the ghost of a white lady said to be frequenting the school grounds. Intrigued and determined to solve the mystery, she decides to explore and hears about the story of Christina (Angelica Panganiban), a simple girl driven to hiding by Mimi’s pompousness. Pearl immediately feels an affinity towards Christina, being on the receiving end of Mimi’s pranks herself.

The haunting worsens when Pearl lands the highly-coveted lead role in the school play. She also receives the brunt of Mimi’s ire as Mimi had wanted the role for herself. Plus, Pearl develops a relationship with Robbie (JC De Vera), the rich, athletic and most popular boy in school, who Mimi desires.

In a series of intense ghostly appearances, the white lady manifests herself to the “in” group, letting them experience her wrath one by one. Pearl is caught in the middle of it all. Later on, she discovers a deadly and horrifying secret that connects her, her schoolmates and the white lady that terrorizes their school.

White Lady is directed by Jeff Tan. The movie opens tonight, July 19. Catch it and find out why you should fear the lady in white.

MOD MAGAZINE

Iwa Moto
Sunshine Girl

By: Grace Q. Estano

IWA IS AS IWA DOES

She has been labeled "pasaway" (deviant) by some people because of her unbridled acts and utterances during the recently concluded Starstruck Batch 3 competition. And the stigma seems to stick to this day. Then she comes to the MOD studio for interview and pictorial dressed with disarming simplicity, winning smile, and genuine politeness, and she not only dispels our doubts, she also gains everyone’s admiration. She's candid, perky, and full of life.

Her answers to questions run from light and witty to serious and profound. With a toss of her head, she amuses everyone with her cheeky remarks. Example: "I have been a muse all my life; wouldn’t it be fun if I were an escort for once?"

But ask her about her family and she turns sullen. She isn't particularly nostalgic about her childhood. Just thinking about it, she claims, stresses her. She obliges us, however, with this information: Her dad, Hiroako Iwamoto, a Japanese businessman was twenty something when he met and fell in love with her mom, Pricilla Quimado, then 19 years old. The young lovers decided to live together. The union produced two daughters, Iwa and Mikki. But, as the saying goes, "The bloom of romance always fades." The couple parted and now Hiroako lives in Japan with his new wife and their son, Masaki. On the other hand, Pricilla became Mrs. Bazar. The Bazars have an 8 year old daughter named Zenneth, Iwa's half sister.

Iwa never got over her resentment against her dad. "I am angry at him for abandoning us and causing us a lot of trouble and pain. Those were really difficult and confusing times for me. It was like I carried the weight of the world on my shoulder. I would be playing and laughing with other kids but deep inside I was in turmoil, hiding behind a mask."
Iwa's real name, she informs us, is Aileen Iwamoto. But there were two of them named in the Starstruck Batch 3 competition. "Director Rommel decided to baptize me Iwa Moto, dropping my first name and splitting my family name to give it more character and easier recall for text voters," she explains. Thus, Iwa Moto was born. Interestingly, the name Iwamoto according to Pricilla, means raging waters.

Iwa says she was strong little girl. She recalls how she used to slug it out with the boys in elementary school. "For heckling me, I punched a boy in the face. I couldn't blame him, though. I wasn't really too good to look at those days. I was boyish. I was missing some front teeth, I must have looked horrible to him," she volunteers. "But, hey, I was a good student. Todo aral," she redeems herself, laughing.

High school was a different story. She remembers going to four years. She spent first year at the University of Perpertual Help in Las Pinas, where she was the classroom muse. She was also the Vice President of the Scouting Club. Although the volleyball court and the track and field oval were her playgrounds, she was equally at home in the school’s dance troupe and theater club.

She was not, however too keen about academics, she admits. A 77 percent mark on her card was normal for her. "I was not that studious but I was smart."

In second year, she transferred to St. Mary's College in Davao, where her stepfather worked. It was the point in her life that she began to grow restless, and had to transfer to another school. Routine, she confesses bored her. She was always on the lookout for new and interesting things. School was definitely not one of them.

"Perhaps my problem stems from the fact that I entered school too young, too soon at age 3." Her restlessness continued till her third year. But she proudly tells us that she passed her subjects and was still classroom muse.

"I guess there's a time in your life when you just get curious and want to try things. You have to be wrong to learn what's right; stumble to persevere; hurt to be stronger, fall to rise again."

Fourth Year was her turning point. She became more responsible and she took her studies seriously, resulting in better grades. She was still classroom muse. At the same time she was PRO in the Supreme Student Council.

To be continued...

Have u seen Blue Moon.....watch that movie then tell me they are not that talented.

Yes Im a little biased....though Im not as extreme as some kapamilyas. They would turn to racial slurs when attacking kapuso. I've been called a n!gger-lover by the TFC subscribers(filipinos born in the US) at ABS-CBN forum cuz I said Jaya(kapuso) was a good singer.
