It was crazy around here. I had to use candles and flashlights to get around after dark. The outage was huge, it affected about 100,000 people in different areas of queens. 19 manholes exploded including one on my block. There are 2 manholes on my block, the other one was smoking and one of the utility poles burst into flames. I'm telling you, it was crazy. eek.gif Utility poles were bursting into flames all over the place.

Actually believe it or not we do hit those temperatures around here too. During a heat wave technically it would be like 98 or 99 degrees but the heat index makes it feel like it's 101 or 102. We're not that lucky. icon_neutral.gif

Oh man I feel for you, suffering without an ac in this weather. Make sure you drink lots of cold water so that you don't get dehydrated.

One full week of heat from the Weather Channel, my roof greenhouse felt like a brazilian rainforest.
Drove down main street flushing, you could see the heat rising up. Main Street is a Flaming Wok .

Remember the 100,000 in woodside that lost power for 10 days? Con-ed still hasn't fixed that power grid, its just temporary generators.
The next grid is Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, Flushing. Now thats half the asian populace in new york city.

Haven't been up this late for awhile, just finished watching a stream by Al Gore "An Inconvenient Truth" dvd edition.
Earth Watch and my group wildlife-org have been trying to warn people about this for awhile now.

It's really really hot today. Now they say suppose to be like that for Thursday too. I'll be staying at home.
ABC in NYC
Best place to hide from the heat is at work. Getting paid to be indoors. Nice !

I hope it rains but that'll probably just make it hotter.

Ya know, I don't understand some people. People are sitting outside & walking around like the heat is nothing but I see sweat dripping from their foreheads. Wow.
ABC in NYC
The worst has got to be people walking around in jeans ----- that has to be the most uncomfortable thing to wear right now.

yikes.gif

HOT day again! To make things worse, Con ED is supposedly shutting power off in some parts of the city. Thanks goodness I didn't get stuck in that part of town. but i do feel a little bad for those other suckers that are without power. embarassedlaugh.gif
Ben
IT's finally cooling down a little. Took a nice walk from time square tonight. Definitely way better than the previous night. The afternoon was mad humid through, and certain parts of the East side lost power. madcool.gif
