I don't do it and only found out about it a few years ago, but have found it very interesting.
I remember the first thing that struck me was its similarities to traditional kung-fu as both base movements on animal forms.
Its really interesting to see though rare, and I was quite surprised to see it making an appearance at the Bercy Martial arts event recently.

"Kalaripayattu is derived from the words Kalari - which means "place, threshing floor, or battlefield", and payattu - which means to "exercise in arms or practice".

Kareena Kapoor played a supporting role. The main character was Asoka the Great, which was played by Shah Rukh Khan. He voluntarily becomes Kareena's bodyguard in the first half of the movie but the second half is mostly based on his rise to power, his conquests, and eventually his regret.

well it is controversial but it goes something like this
kalari is an ancient martial art parcticed ic southern india
long ago a monk called bodhi dharm from southern india reached shaolin temple of china
seeing the bad health of the monk there ,he started teaching them this art
which they developed in years and called it kung fu the mother of asian martial arts
i think kalari is the mother of all martial arts
the moves and kicks of kalari is very different from other arts
i practice thang-ta , a martial art practiced in manipur ,in india

Here's some more pics of Varma Kalai and Kuttu Varisai, which are Tamil martial arts that use Luohan techniques, pressure point attacks and animal forms (elephant, snake, eagle, monkey, etc.) similar to Shaolin kung fu, and which also use every part of the body (open and closed hands, elbows, knees, feet, shoulders, etc.) similar to Muay Thai:
