maybe it's not my place to actually say this, kastila, (although, i won't be surprised if i wasn't the only one thinking of it) they are not targeting you because you are spanish. well, if it's true, then i would say it's not the whole story. it's because of how you come off to many people here in the forum.
you come off as an arrogant, snobbish, hardcore elitist (don't be offended). from the tone and sheer volume of majority of your post, many people would have the impression that you favor only the spanish culture against the indigenous culture of our country, which you do not seem to put into high regard enough. most of your posts are just too spanish-centric, that people are getting the idea that that is your ONLY preference.
Let me just say that I do find it odd that if one (in this case, I) decides to post factual articles relating to aspects of our Filipino culture derived from Spanish culture, then he/she is automatically suspected of considering Spanish culture to be superior to our indigenous cultures. That is absurd. Former President Cory Aquino majored in French when she was studying at university. Are we to assume that she believes that French culture is "superior" to our own? Is this ample reason to suspect her of being a French "bigot?" How about scholars who specialize in Chinese culture and who have only authored books on Chinese-related topics thus far? Are they to be automatically branded as Sino-centric bigots? Can you not see that this line of thinking is totally idiotic? Look, this is not the first time that I have responded to such accusations by others, but quite frankly, I am sick of having to defend myself from people who try to charaterize me as some sort of insidious racist simply by observing that I have posted articles on aspects of Filipino culture derived from Spanish culture. Nowhere am I putting down non-Spanish aspects of our culture (or any other culture, for that matter). Some people cannot get this through their thick skulls, and I won't waste any more of my time pointing out the countless fallacies and other holes in their arguments. Worse still, a small number of these bitter people are genuine hate-mongers who love putting down other cultures and engaging in direct harrassment of members of this forum. For them, I present a convenient punching bag on which they think that can let loose their pent up frustrations. Those people just end up on my ignore list. Not satisfied with picking on the forum's token Tisoy, these disgusting hate-mongers also engage in endless racist assaults on those of Chinese descent (including our own mod ham_let), Koreans, Laotians, Mexicans, and so-on. Have they no shame? I'm sorry to say this, but the forum police on this board really ought to be clamping down on this nonsense.

i don't really think that you are really what i mentioned above and i also think you are just as filipino as any filipinos in this forum are. but you, at times, can just be too high and mighty, something no man expects from another. one time you even called a filipina a "commoner":
now, don't get me wrong, i really think you're an invaluable member here in AF Filipino Forum, an excellent source of insights and well-researched articles. besides, i'm looking forward for more articles from you.
Understood. I would like to say that the above quote is being taken out of context and could be misterpreted. Here's the whole thing:

lol kastila, what are your bad experiences as a foreign looking white dude?

got mugged?
If I happen to be alone at some of the less exclusive places, such as Bora, Tali, and Puerto Galera, some of the commoner girls will try to come on to me, thinking that I am some dumb, classless, foreign tourist. Of course, the moment I open my mouth, they realize who I am and go back to seducing the old Americans, Brits and Germans...
Oh, and thanks for caring pare.
This should give you the whole picture. Basically, someone was picking on me (again), because of my racial heritage. Everyone knows that mugging of westerners is not all that common at tourist spots (most people are just trying to make an honest living). It's obvious that this guy was just trying to be a jerk. Instead of going on the attack, I just answered his question with a truthful, but blunt, answer. The answer was not intended to put down people in our country. Look, it should be obvious that I am describing the all-too-common tourist experience of being approached by women (and men) engaged in sexual solicitation. Why anyone would take offense to my referring to these people as "common," instead of other more commonly-used, negative terminology, is beyond me. These are people whose living conditions are often very desperate, and I have nothing but sympathy for them. In fact, the only people that I put down in my response are those foreigners who like to prey on our disadvantaged. So, let's just end this discussion right here.
Anyhow, that's the final word from me on this OT subject. As always, have no fear: you can expect
many more contributions from me in the future, whether you like it or not.
