The judges picked Miss Puerto Rico from Puerto Rico = a U.S territory.
Pleaseing a U.S. territory is more important than being your supposedly friends that President Bush jr. claims he is with you people.

Japan should stop co-operateing with U.S.A or you will soon be a puppet(territory) of theirs just like Puerto Rico & South Korea.

Indonesia and crowd favorite Sri Lanka and Philippines did not make it as semifinalist

I highly doubt that they picked Puerto Rico due to racial discrimination or by any political values. I mean Japan looked great. I was rooting for her, but I guess it all comes down to who's better. I'm sure there are tons of judges, not just one. Remember that some asians have won the Miss Universe pageant before, so don't be so biased.
Don't try to turn it into a discriminatory thing... Asians have won before and plus, you should be proud that Miss Japan placed first as runner up. Go Japan!
Favorite Miss Philippines did not make the cut ! Everyone in the Philippines were shocked when her name was not annouced !

The last winner from east Asia was Thai and it was way back in 1988

India, Thailand and the Philippines have all won 2 Miss Universe titles each, while Japan has also won a Miss Universe title in the past, and a 1st runner-up title this year.

I've noticed miss india hold more titles in miss world[5] then in miss universe[2]
I thought it was like the same in each pageant, but those were the tops and runner ups
I've always got the feeling that Miss World might be a bit biased towards India for some reason (5 wins is a lot for an Asian country).

As a Japanese, I don't think miss universe is important.
I know some countries, especially in the middle and south america, this is a hot issue.
but i want Japan to compete, pursue excellence in different fields: sports, art, academics, etc.
The idea to choose only one miss universe from different cultural backgrounds are ridiculous.
Western figures are more preferred in the cntest and i am sad to see the Japanese girl make up her face to look like one of those. Few Japanese girl do such make up in Japan.
