Full Version: memory lane:this Lao kid remind you of typical SE Asian gangbanger

This question is pretty much restricted to my folks from California (mainly Southern Cali) who grew up around that gang bangin $hit. This picture of a young Lao brother brought back memories of my Lao and Cambodian folks in Eastside Long Beach and SouthEast Daygo. The d!ckies, the Chucks, the Converse, the hat, the stripe shirt and sweater on the inside remind me of the early and late 90s. I can still picture it, all the fighting with Blacks and Mexicans at school. We shooting at them or they shooting at us. I remember in junior high when me and few of the homies in our bikes kicking it in front of the school when school was out and two car load of Eses roll by and stopped their car and one of them got out and started blasting at us. And I say my hood wasn't all the bad compared to other hoods that other SE Asians(Lao and Cambodian) had to deal with. Those were the days.

I live up in Norcal but I defenetly see Lao fools like that. I would never see a Lao person that was not into rap and hip hop. My cousins used to tell me stories about how the gangbanging was down there with the lao/cambo gangs. SEA got Street Cred cool30.gif

thats the realest $hit you ever said man. cali in the early 90s was mad crazy, khakis and chucks was the uniform, lao and cambodians banded up together to show folks they aint no punks. kids started bangin and slangin when they were young, alot of loved ones lost, they gained respect and made a word for themselves on the streets. sad, but real life. that was how life was when our folks just started out immigrating to cali to escape war/ect. it is what it is.

A close friend of my brother was beaten up at the liquor store by a Mexican. His friend was outside waiting for him in the car. His friend then got out of car and went inside and saw what had happend and whooped the Mexican's @$$. He kicked the Mexican through the glass window. The Mexican probably thought he would get away with because the fella was Asian. Guess he was wrong.

i feel you manng... i been through it, caught one in my shoulder, did four years in OYA for attempt. this is where i feel alot of us lao people have fu-ked off our brains. this is for black people and we need to stress and climb on board the higher education boat before we will be the last ones. i tell people now that all that gang banging is for black people, no offense if your black but it is their invention and their drama. what the lao community really needs is more of us opening businesses, uniting with other lao ethnics like the hmong and mien and support eachothers businesses.

I gotta disagree with you with saying that it's for the black people. That's an ignorant statement to say. But as far as gang bangin goes, what's the fu-king point?? Where does that $hit lead to? What the fu-k you get out of it? Nothing! I understand clicks, and groups of homies that got ya back, but I don't understand gang bangin? I don't need an explanation either if someone is trying to be smart. Anyways, people need to stop period! Nothing good comes out of it.

I don't miss those gang bangin days at all, even tho I didn't bang. But ya know what i mean.

what? go to school man. gangs is not the lao history, kings and queens are. i dont know about your bloodline. my bloodline is of leaders and politicians and gogetters.

Don't be ignorant, gangs started from a long time ago. If you think about it, leaders and politicians are gangs. We follow one leader or another, or don't follow neither. One politician is also having a gang of their own, or a party you would call it.

In Laos, we have communists, some people follow, some people don't. Which start rivalry, basically what a gang does to another gang. icon_wink.gif

It doesn't take a college degree to realize the obvious, and that is...gangs started from way back then.

It's my uncle's tat. Before he turned into a monk, he wanted me to take pics of his tattoos and all. I believe all of the tats on his body were done by his friend.
Sirikittong
Oh, he is a monk? _/l\_ Would you ask him to pray for the Shan people for me? I have been to the wat in a long time.

How long as he been a monk?
Mr Laocean
He's been a monk for 2 months now. I'm heading out to the temple tomorrow. biggrin.gif
