are those the people who grew up and lived here like manny pacquiao, jed maddela, precious lara quigaman etc. who wear the filipino smiles and speak the language or those people who are just half or one percent filipino like mutya of sugababes, nicole of pussycat dolls, jasmine trias, apl of black eyed peas, who know just few things about their roots except for apl whom i know had spent his early life here in the country that's why he knows more about filipino culture...

i feel sad, some are claiming they are 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 filipino but they dont even know something about the country except from those informations that they've read or heard from others and some have never been here and not aware that this country exists.... confused.gif

Worry not. I will die trying to bring pride for our beloved motherland. I am sitting on a catapult that would grant me power to bring the best (and the worst) of our culture to mainstream. I am an aspiring director (student film maker).

I will no longer sit idly and let the Filipinos become the "invisible" people/culture all over the world, as what you said frankly, some treat being Filipino like a disease or an unfortunate coincidence that they were born as. I already had a rant on the thread IMSCF (I'm Spanish/Chinese Filipino) about those claiming 1/8, 1/4, etc...

All is well. I have never claimed anything other than I am 100% Filipino FOB from the province of Cagayan, who still speaks Ilocano and 3 other dialects. I am an ex US Army infantry soldier who have seen enough death and destruction to last me five lifetimes. I can speak/understand Korean because I guarded the line separating the two Koreas in excess of four years.

I won't allow for me to fall in any mold or stereotype, whatsoever, for I have shown that I am not afraid to interact and even date other races, which itself is a tribute to all other Filipino guys. I'm not kind, yet, I'm not evil. I'm not scared to expose the truth, dirty or not, if it comes to it. I don't have to be your friend, but you don't want me as your enemy.

I am Americanized, but I'll eat asocena with you any day, or if you are Ilocano, I'll have a beer with you over ararawan (crickets). I visit Boracay almost everytime I go home, but I was born in a slum in Sampaloc. I shop at the Mall of America in Minneapolis, but you'll see me taking a dive in an ukay-ukay in Tutuban near Quiapo. I have a rock in the shower used for scrubbing myself whenever I bathe. I've known to be poor with no running water as a child, all the way to supervising the building of an eight-bedroom house, I built for my family.

With what I experienced, I feel that everything else is easy. So you don't have to ask me if I will succeed in the film industry, because I already know I will. Because all the things I wrote above was once a dream like this, that I know I will make happen.

Yes, I will be a film maker. A Filipino Film Maker.

Hey I got some family in Sampaloc

My family used to live in Balic Balic, Sampaloc, when I was a child but left the urban decay and moved to the province before I entered elementary (Guimba, N.E.) and was the brightest move we made. I still know and visit childhood friends over there, but I see the toll of living in Manila takes on its subjects.

My homebase in NCR is out of Marikina now and still see an influx of probinsyanos to Manila, ending in the slums...

Funny, it should be the other way around, Manilenos should be moving back to the country (province).

i agree about why you feel sad. even though they claim to be whatever % being filipinos, they really didn't grow up being in the Philippines. also, what is a filipino if they claim to be one???how do you define a filipino after all??? anyway, regarding who really do i think gives pride to our country, i definitely do not think that it's those people mentioned by you earlier, not the OFWs too. they only are known due to their work yes, but they do not work for the country but for themselves. the filipinos only are proud of them because they have some % of filipino blood in them. i might be wrong to your perspective, but i think that the people who makes the Philippines proud are those who really love the country. whoever they are, i do not know (maybe bonifacio, Andres?).

That's the spirit!! Being only techincally 25% cambodian, but growing up cultured in khmer culture doesnt make me less khmer cause the next guy is 35% cambodian ancestory .. biggthumpup.gif However i do feel im more cambodian than others cause i take my time to learn our culture and learned to read and write in cambodian through self study. I have really come to love and be proud of my cultural heritage ...

Im rooting for ya, do what you intend to do and hope all goes well in trying to make a name for filipinos in all the world! Show the beauty of your culture rather than keeping it behind lock doors!

*raises hand

ha ha jok.. anyways, im going for master of fine arts in creative writing so i guess wish me luck?

i think it would be kinda hard being a writer because it's kinda like being a loner that has no friends and no other things to think about. the writer's friends would be the characters in the story and his world is all in his fiction settings which is kinda perfect for me because im not really into making introductions for myself and it has to be either someone that would introduce me to someone or they introduce themselves to me. it's like not speaking to someone without being spoken to i guess. but i dont have a problem introducing myself online like in message boards or what not because it's all in writing laugh.gif

lol..im confused cuz i don't know what ur saying.

the writers i'm talking about are writers who inspire people..jose rizal's books inspired people to take action and fight against the status quo..

but ur right..it is hard for writers because they are often the targets of those who wish to keep the current regime in place...
