HIROSHIMA -- A 44-year-old man has been arrested for making more than 37,700 calls to NTT's telephone directory service so he could talk to "kind" female operators, police said.
Kenji Sasaki, from Sanyo Onoda, Yamaguchi Prefecture, has admitted to allegations of obstructing NTT's operations.
"When I made a complaint call once, the operator responded very kindly. So I wanted to hear those women's voices," Sasaki told police.
Sasaki made 37,760 calls to NTT's directory service from March to July this year, mostly on his mobile phone. Police deemed that these calls obstructed the jobs of more than 100 female NTT telephone operators in Hiroshima and Okayama.
In an extreme case, he made 905 calls on one day, police said. In May, NTT filed a complaint to the police over his calls.
