Vietnam forbid the translation of other songs except if they bought the right, also usually only amature singers copy other people songs. But damn all Thuy nga, Asia, Van Son etc. for stealing all the korean, chinese, thai and other god knows what countries songs.
landsknechts
Havythoai said that in the past 2 years the Vietnamese government have banned people from translating foreign songs to Vietnamese. I personally think Vietnamese music has been getting better since that policy was introduced.

unattractiveguy
I agreed. With the money they're making, i don't see why they just simply hired a composer and stop shaming the Vietnamese communities with their ripp-off music of other nationality.

I don't listen to Korean or Chinese music and only a little bit of Viet music but I'm curious at how do you know Thuy Nga, Asia and Van Son are "stealing all" other country songs??? confused.gif

With a big productions like them, do you think they know the legality of copyrights?

Interestingly, this copy right things came up in my mind several times in the past when I watched Thuy Nga, Asia and other productions. But I came down to the same thought as yours bluelakedragon. I would be very surprised if these large productions don't pay the copyrights, given the fact that they have been in business in the US for so many years. Be remindful that the US has one of the most strict copyright and IP policies in the world. The best way to find out is for someone in here send emails to Thuy, Asia, Van Son and ask the question. Before we know the truth, let's refrain from accusing anyone from stealing anything.
daidai
I know big productions such as Thuy Nga and Asia do buy copyrights to the songs. One lawsuit can drive them out of business. If you are so concern with stealing music without permission, you should worry about the music that is in VN right now.
supernovasp
uhm THERE ARE LOTS of copied korean and chinese songs whether or not they are bought in any productions: repeated offenders include Nguyen Thang, Andy Quach and a bunch of other mofos. sure.gif

I understand that other countries also tend to rip off music from others, but it seems like vietnamese music industry is the worst of them all. I know that some chinese artists get the music from other countries and them change the lyrics to it, and vice versa from the other countries. However, i am pretty sure that not their entire album is full of rip-off songs. There are also many artists that compose their own music, which i admire greatly, such as LeeHom. It just seems that the productions such as van son and paris by night just does not encourage their artists or composers to be more creative and orginal. I was pretty surprised when i listen to andy quach KO album, which around 80% of the songs were either taken from china or korea. And was i disappointed in nguyen thang when he sang a vietnamese version of leehom's wei yi. He totally ruined such a good song. In addition, those songs are then used by other vietnamese artists and all they have to do is to have a different lyrics for it. I can name like ten different versions of tinh don phuong and kiep ve sau, etcs. I just hope that one day we will have talented artists that can make us proud.

anyone got a youtube video of a vietnamese singing a chinese song ? I want to hear it lol

I totally disagree with you there. Most of the songs on Van Son, PbN, and Asia are written by Vietnamese song writers. I have to admit that most of the songs are written before 75'; however, they are all written by Vietnamese. Now, let's discuss why most of the young, modern songs you've listen to during between 1992 - 2002 are Chinese, that's because we've have just gotten through a war and people are worrying about their lives and family first instead of writing music; although, there are still good songs being produced, but not a whole lot. Plus, during that time, Chinese movie are very popular, so when people see the movies they tend to familiarize themselves with the songs that are in the movies. Now, let's back to the PbN, Van Son, and Asia thingy, yes, they do sing a few foreign songs once in awhile, but, they list the song on and specicically stated that it's a foreign song. Plus, whenever they do topics like "Music Around the World", of course they have to use songs from other countries, the title speaks for itself. Lastly, I just wanted to say that if you want to listen to cool, modern Vietnamese songs with good beat and lyrics, drop by my website. I have tons of songs there that are written by a few young Vietnamese artists, and I think you will enjoy them. I used to listen to translated songs, and I have to admit they are good; however, most of them being translated and all sort of lost their meaning. Most of the songs's lyrics are almost the same. Now, that we have tons of young artists with good songs, I slowly stop listening to foreign songs. In fact, lately, I only listen to the songs that are written by a young Vietnamese artist by the name of Luong Bang Quang. You will see what I meant if you visit my website. beerchug.gif

Romantic, he sounds like a duck whaling when it's dying. I can't believe Vietnamese people have such horrible taste of music nowaday. IMO thai people have much better taste in music than vietnamese.

everyone has their own taste of music . You may hate this song but I may not, I may dislike that song and you may not .

^^ I don't hate the song, i hate the whole genre of it. I can stand poppy music, but i can't stand the current viet songs that are badly produced yet somehow people like it while ignoring many talented artists.

Ever heard of Kenny Thai? He sang that song called 'Baby Im so sorry' the vietnamese version of Alex To's 'Baby im so sorry' chinese version.

I actually liked that song.

Any of you guys have it??

I don't know many Viet singers that write and sing his/her own songs like Duy Manh. You're right about his voice; its different from other male singers and I think thats one of the reasons that makes him special. To me, most other male singers sound the same. He has a more manly voice than many other dudes IMO.

Songs like "Kiep Do Den", "Hay Ve Day Ben Anh", and some others I don't remember the titles are pretty good.

Here are his songs:

Other singers that I know write and sings their own songs are: Jimmi?, Duc Huy, Nhat Truong(Tran Thien Thanh), ...?????
