I am reading a document named "Japanese Women: Lineage and Legacies", by Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars
The question is simple: A female should be allowed to inherit the imperial throne?
But hard to answer.
"should" or "should not", it is a question.
What do you think about it?

United Kingdom has been allowing female heirs to inherit the throne and UK is doing fine.

I support it.

Originally women did inherit the throne. This whole male only thing occured pretty recently. I think it happened after the whities came over.

From what I've read, there is a split in thought about this isssue. Many japanese want to keep tradition, but others feel that it's fine to have a female. I am not a native Japanese living in Japan so I think it's fine that a female rule.

There has been a female emperor before, I forgot if it was one of the mythical rulers or an actual historical figure.

Empress Jingu, was an empress of Japan.

Wrong ..... Japan had 8 Empresses with 2 reigned twice according to my Chinese translated book titled " Chronology of Japan's Royal House ".

nothing. i am chinese and im proud of it. what i have a problem with is a bunch of non-japanese people coming in here and talking about whether or not Japan should have a female emperor. this is a sacred thing to them. we should have more respect. its not something non-japanese should just gossip about.

I agree with this. Changing it was pointless. The first Empress was in the Asuka period. mochichuchu is right in saying that there have been 8 in total with two reigning twice. There was a change in the law in 1947 but from 1771 there were no more female rulers.

To me horohito was a war criminal. Many of the imperial family were also. I could care less about the japanese imperial family.

The Imperial Family will never allow a White to marry a descendant of Amaterasu. The Imperial Army is strict on issues of marriage, I mean, Princess Sayaka (i think) married a commoner and was renounced of her imperial title.

Women get shafted in the Imperial family. If they marry commoners they lose their title and any claim to the throne whereas the men dont Empress Michiko and Princess Kiko are/were both commoners.

When female priest-shaman queen reign the island.
And I think it's the origin of Amaterasu O-mikami mythology.
