I was surfin the net right then i ran up to this interview between Brandon Vera (MMA fighter) and some interviewer in the Philippines lolz. One of the question was this.

QUOTE
Some say you were born in the Philippines, some say in Norfolk Virginia, and some say San Diego California. I hope you don’t get offended on this next question. It’s just that a lot of people wants to clear this up, and it concerns your nationality lineage, because you know how people are when it comes to racial discrimination. I mean not that its really important but I guess this is just to separate you from those Filipino wannabees that just wants to make big bucks here in our country, although I couldn’t blame them because you know how much some people loves to nut hug and share the limelight or kiss @$$ for the sake of fame just to get a piece of someone famous who is claiming to be Filipino who represents any country they want at anytime. I won’t mention who those wannabees are but there’s one athlete and one female singer to name a few, anyway so far what I know is that you are based in California right now and that you do have a Filipino heritage in you, and you are definitely not in it for the money. Can you please tell us more about yourself just to enlighten the masses and so that we can get the facts straight once and for all.

(In bold letters) I think the interviewer was talking about Jasmine Trias and Brian Viloria lolz i could be wrong.. what do you guys think?

ps. just in case u guys r interested in reading the whole interview

don't worry -- they're Filipino. If Margaret Cho is Korean, then those Flips are Flips.
HutFlip
Hmm, yes to Trias, but Brian? I thought he was filipino-american...
flipcombatmedic
Filipino wannabes? i thought it was Filipinos who like to claim otherwise.

I dont know if claiming to be Filipino is a good way of getting rich... Viloria is a Fil-Am, both parents Pinoy... He's a champ so I don't care that he was born in Hawaii. They're not wanabes if they truly have Filipno blood...
Enrique Eglesias??

That Trias b!tch now wants to be a Filipina embarassedlaugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

Filipino Wanabes should be people with no Filipino blood at all -- claiming Filipino ancestry or ethnicity. Not Filipinos born in other countries, or are half Filipino.

What about filipinos who didnt consider themselves as filipinos prior to their big break, but worst considered themselves to be hawaiians for instance icon_smile.gif . Do you still consider them "true" filipinos? for me, that makes them filipino wanabes eventhough they are pinoyz. lolz the higher level of word "wanabe" i guess

Sure everybody’s been asking me this question since I’ve been here in the Philippines and probably most a lot in the States too. I was born in Portsmouth Virginia, at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. I was raised in Norfolk Virginia then I moved to San Diego California. My father’s Filipino, my birth mother is Italian, I didn’t know her till I was five or six years old. But my mother who raised me, I don’t call her stepmom, she’s been there since I was three and she’s Pinay. My father remarried a Filipina and I grew up in a Filipino household.

he has a similar background to vanessa minillo

Thats hard to believe...Jasmine probably had some say in it.

Why would her CD be selling under Polynesian Music then in Hawaii???
Hi Tone

I am not here to defend Jasmine Trias or Brian Villoria, but why do people call Jasmine Trias and Brian Villoria, wannabe Filipinos? IMHO, they are Filipinos, Jasmine Trias' great-grandfather is General Mariano Trias who fought against the Americans during the Philippine-American War. (The town of General Trias in Cavite is named in his honor). Jasmine's parents are both Filipinos. Brian Villoria might be born in Hawaii but her parents are both Filipino. So this makes him Filipino, and he's proud of it (and also a very proud Ilocano). He may have represented the United States during the Sydney 2000 Olympic games, but who cares, a lot of Filipinos represented other countries in any international events, but they still consider themselves Filipinos.

At least Jasmine and Brian embrace their Filipino heritage, unlike other Filipinos who doesn't know anything about the Philippines, or doesn't even know what the word "Taglish" mean. Take Camille Velasco, for example, she was born in Manila, but grew up in Hawaii, she said doesn't speak Tagalog, and when a reporter from the Philippines asked her if she speak Taglish, she replied, "What's that?"

Camille Velasco and Jasmine Trias are both from Hawaii, and the American Idol producers introduced them as from Hawaii, the non-Filipinos think they are Hawaiians. Even my co-workers think them as Hawaiians. However, the Filipinos in the states knew them as Filipinos, that's why they got supported by the Filipino community all over the states. Well, not all Filipinos in the states supported them dahil umiral na naman ang crab mentality nila.

Examples of wanna be Filipinos are Alex Compton and Larry Marshalls, (no disrespect to them) Alex Compton was born in the Philippines (her both parents are 100% Americans) but he grew up in the states, now he's back in the Philippines to try his luck in the PBA, however under PBA Constitution, a player who is allowed to play in the PBA as local must have Filipino in him (i.e at least one parent is Filipino). He has been denied many times because he is not a Filipino, but Compton is still hoping that he could play in the PBA as local.

Larry Marshall, on the other hand, is a former U.S. Marine who is now living in the Philippines and a singer. He had already release an album, (forgot the name of the album). They nicknamed him, KKPP or Katawang Kano Pusong Pinoy.

Actually, ang napupuna ko dito sa mga ibang posters ay umiiral na naman ang Crab Mentality nila....This is what typical Filipinos good at. laugh.gif

I read somewhere Vanessa Millino claim that she has a Polynesian mother, even though she has a Filipina mother but because her mother abandon her.

I was just gonna post that, lol.

I hated her before I knew she was part Filipino(up until 10 minutes ago) and I still hate her after knowing she's part Filipino. Talentless b!tch needs to FOAD. I hate media whores like her.

there are two kinds of citizenship.

1. jus soli = citizenship by birth place

2. jus sanguinie = citizenship acquired throug blood relation (either mother or father is filipino)

even if a person is born abroad we follow jus sanguinie, americans on the otherhand follow jus soli.

I thought that was strange for Vanessa Minnillo, but I was trying to find a pic of her mom and see if I can tell.

My point is, Jasmine Trias is an AMERICAN CITIZEN because she was born in US (jus soli = citizenship by birth place) and she is also a FILIPINO CITIZEN (jus sanguinie = citizenship acquired throug blood relation)

we have dual citizenship law.
