Yeah, I think most Japanese are Shinto but a large majority are Buddhist. Wonder why that nation isn't as "Christian" as South Korea for example? I do applaud them for holding on to their traditional faiths.

A lot of people consider themselves to believe in both Shinto and Buddhism.

are you sure? I believe it's both ... a buddhist can go pray at a shinto shrine and a shintoist can go pray at a buddhist temple and vice-versa ..
