Viet humour is pretty cool. I don't know how to describe it. A bit silly and light-hearted like black American humour I think.

Viets have a tough attitude as well. They aren't condescending and snobbish compared to other Asian ethnicities, but say something demeaning to Viets and you'll be sorry. Because it doesn't mean they don't have any pride.

I think Viet parents are really strict on their kids. Even moreso than Chinese parents...... imho.

What do you think??

Most Viets have pretty good self-control, even in the face of insults. The b!tch is in the payback. But then, patience is a virtue that Vietnamese culturally value.

I don't know whether Chinese parents are more or less strict on their kids (I am no expert on Chinese parents), but I do expect that Vietnamese parents are strict on their kids. I expect that both Chinese and Vietnamese parents value teaching their kids discipline, because nothing can be achieved without it, and that both Chinese and Vietnamese parents will work hard and sacrifice without complaint or self-pity the best years of their lives so that their kids may have a future.

Vietnamese humor is hard to explain. In the surface, the topic is VERY conservative, however if you DO know Vietnamese well, you'll realize that there are so many sexual innuendos embarassedlaugh.gif Vietnamese look down on comedies that are "tuc"/naughty-sexual, but if you dig deep to all vietnamese comedies, they're pretty much all "tuc" embarassedlaugh.gif

^ it's hard to explain if you don't understand Vietnamese well...

like this comedy:

The name of the guy is "Duc" which means "male" but it does have some sexual connotation.

I think Viet people in America are generally nice. My brother is dating a Vietnamese girl that comes from a catholic family, and they're strict off the extreme meter.

Dunno I don't like to speak viet much. They put more emphasize more on the actual words than body language.

Almost 200 years ago we have Hồ Xuân Hương, a female poet who used sexual humor in her poems. I don't think people look down on her. We think shes clever and creative.

"A single woman in a Confucian society, her works show her to be independent-minded and resistant to societal norms, through her social-political commentaries and use of sexual humour or expressions. Her poems are usually irreverent, full of double entendres, but erudite. The sexual allusions in her work are not hard to figure out, though this may be more a result of the translation." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ho_Xuan_Huong

it's because on the surface it's not explicit just like most viet comedies. You'll never see any ho xuan huong poems that explicitly used sexual words but most of them are usually metaphors or words that sound quite close to the sexual words just like in viet comedies.

Not around here. They are the most forgiving and understandable. And that's not always a good thing.

While Vietnamese many are generally hard working, they do try to cut corners to make more money or get the job done easier if given the chance no matter if it's somewhat illegal or shames them.

Ethics? Viets don't usually give up easily.
