I know 99% of you posters on India Chat live outside of India, and it really shows. Here in India, there's none of this stupid talk about "Oh my state is so great" "Your state is trash."

This is all rubbish. If an act of terror hits South India we in the North feel their pain. If the North gets hit, those in the South feel our pain.

It's this sort of division about skin color, state supremecy, Aryan/Dravidian crap that divides us. There is no supreme state in India which is better than the rest, nor are their people.

I can find great people in Punjab, but also many idiots. I can find great people in Tamil Nadu, but also many idiots. This goes throughout the nation. First comes the country, then your state.

In India that's how all people see it, but it seems like those of you away from your homeland see it as a state thing.

Here's my take on it, and I admit that I've been influenced by such garbage, but I would only talk out of retaliation. I was telling ACMILAN that I didn't even know such so-called "phenotypical differences'" existed among other Indians until a few years ago.

You don't know how to deal with being felt like you're too ugly to be even noticed by the grandiose white man.


So, you decide to take your insecurity out on other Desis and try to compare who looks more closer to the "white man," who's taller, who's smarter, etc. That's the only way to make yourself feel superior, since nobody else in America gives a crap about you.

I really do believe that this American/Western media and culture has created a cult in which people want to look more like Europeans, and have the same features as them.

In the end, we are all Indians. State lines do not matter, and neither does skin color. If we go to a war against some white nation, it doesn't matter we want our light-skinned and dark-skinned on the side of the Green/White/Orange fighting together, not against eachother.

Han is the largest ethnic group in the world. Lite is usual used a moniker on tobacco and beer to denote that the potency is lesser than original version.

I'm not saying that all Indians must be the exact same.

I'm saying that people here are so concerned with promoting their own state, rather than the nation. Yes it's good for each state to have different customs, and traditions, this is great. STILL in the end you shouldn't put your state above all others and make them feel bad.

And as far as skin color, dark and light, Indians are Indians. I've seen some Northerners in JK Kashmir who are darker than some people from Goa. Skin doesn't matter.

PPl don't say that bcoz most gujaratis or punjabis live in their own respective states. So no reason to say that, as they are a majority within their own states. "______ Pride" only happens when a particular ethnic group is a minority.

Most ppl in india carry "_________ Pride" thing in many subtle ways. You have Jatts with Gutss or something going around the forums talking as if Jatts are the saviors of india, which is the most retarded thing on earth. Pride is OK as long as people aren't yelling it, or spreading it like its a virus. Ie: I've seen American companies which sell shirts saying, "Kiss me I'm Punjabi." Rather ridiculous. They have it for quite a few states.

I guess most don't usually leave their state, but if India is attacked the entire nation mourns together. Nobody feels less sympathy for the victims just because they aren't of their state.

I made this thread mainly to try and curb that state pride. It was getting out of control.

I think those living in the USA have some mental problems probably. Not like stupidity, but all immigrants there do. I heard there's racism between all groups of Asians/African/South/Central Americans even. Mainly because it's not their own country.

But if you visit their true country, their people are much more friendly than the Americanized version. I guess it has to do with being in a foreign land where everybody has so many differences.

NOT really. Just my experiences. Vegeterian Indians(in india) walk around as if they have the higher moral ground(but that's not the problem). If you live near them, u can't do anything. They won't eat, they won't let others eat. I read how in mumbai, all veggies are creating their own Housing Centers and barring/evicting non-vegs.

I lived in Rajasthan, that place is loaded with jains! Getting a home for a non-veg in rajasthan is next to impossible. I know some of my friends, who couldn't get decent homes to live for over a year bcoz veggies won't rent them homes

Imagine, moving to a new state, and not even being able to get a home just cuz ur non-veg. and most of the homes are vacant.

Over 70% of India at this point eats meat. Many of them Hindu's. I'm not talking beef/pork but items like chicken/eggs/fish.

Really I am not a pure vegetarian as I have eaten all 3. I am slowly trying to stop eating them though, and I do agree with the vegetarians that it's a morally wrong habit.

during british rule punjabis used to make 30% of armed forces cause we were a martial race according to their logic. when india gained independence different standards were set for recruiment in armed forces for differnt states so that every state should be represented according tp proportion to its population. since people of some states are generally weak and short so their standard of recruitment in army is differnt from punjabs....make it a fair game and u will c percentage of punjabis incresing in army again. all said percentage of punjabis in armed forces is still more than percent of punjabi population with respect to india.

Yes Punjabi's makes up 31% of the Indian Armed Forces, and notice INDIAN ARMED FORCES, not PUNJABI ARMED FORCES. You take the rest of the people out of the Army, and that 31% will get cut to pieces by Pukistan.

i think army recruitments should be strictly based on persons ability to fight ..rather than based on maintaining diversity in army.

First of all, anyone who believes in martial race is down right stupid. The very idea of martial race was so that the british would have "loyal" soldiers. Since Bengalis were at the forefront of freedom fight in the early days and espicially with bengali regiments revolt in 1857, the idea of martial race was born.

The idea is simple, martial race soldiers are loyal, strong, brave, docile and will fight for you, and more importantly won't disobey your orders. It was bengali regiments that full blown revolted, this "betryal" by the Bengal Army helped propogate the idea of martial race.

Who do you think supported the british to put these "traitors" down? Punjabi and pathan regiments! This revolt furthened british views and led to complete recruittal of punjabi soldiers, becoz punjabis unlike bengalis wouldn't rebel.

I am not trying to diss punjabis, but it should be seen as an insult to be considered a martial race. Punjabis are only a small part of martial race. In India Rajputs usually take the place as the Martial race, not jatts. Its not a good thing to be a martial race(it may sound nice) but the idea is that you can't think.

At present, In order to join the army, one needs to be fluent in Hindi. That is Required! There is some test that needs to be taken and stuff. Now, what is the penetration of fluency of Hindi in South India? If Punjabis were so good at warring, can someone plz explain to me how the hell the entire NW Corridor of India and a major of N. India became so heavily influenced and ruled by muslims? The musims only made headway in south after the fall of Vijaynagar Empire, which held off 3 Muslim Sultanates for friggin 200 Years. I can't think of any State in North that actually did that.

Sikh and Hindu families in America have 1-3 kids. The Muslims at my school had up to 4 brothers and sisters.
